Poll: Do you think the 'War on Drugs' will ever be won?
By South Jersey Times
on April 28, 2014

Despite doubts voiced as recently as 2011, the "War on Drugs" continues not only in this country, but right on down to Salem County.

The Pennsville Police Department recently spoke about their proactive efforts in the war on drugs. Such efforts include large narcotic arrests, community outreach, and up-to-date training.

Pennsville Police Chief Allen J. Cummings has made it known that if drugs are brought in to the township, the local department will fight to keep them off the street.

Do you think the "War on Drugs" will ever be won — at home or across the country? Take our poll and tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Calling the persecution of drug users a "war on drugs" is like calling apartheid (which was the persecution of black South Africans) a "war on trespass". It mislabels the problem.

We have to get away from this phrase "war on drugs" because it is like a rallying cry to persecute even harder. When the likes of Peter Hitchens says, "there is no 'war on drugs', we haven't started yet" he almost has a point because if it was an actual war drug users would be treated a lot more harshly in EU/US etc.

Persecution and prohibition are the real enemies. Do people remember the "end of alcohol prohibition" or the "legalisation of alcohol" in the US?

Its not a war on drugs its a war on drug users. People go to jail not drugs. People get criminal records. People have their families torn apart due to arcane laws. The drugs themselves will always be replaced but when you lock up a person for drugs...they can't get that time back.

^Weekend addiction you've summed it up there.
People are always going to be making and selling drugs because of the tax free money, and because of that they know they need to stay one step ahead of the law!

awesome, the results at the moment really give me hope of getting erie of this stupid 'war'
when i looked 30 secs ago there was":

No, there will always be drugs 76.37% (223 votes)

Maybe, if lawmakers take a different approach 20.21% (59 votes)

Yes, eventually the tide will turn 3% (10 votes)

No opinion/other 0% (0 votes)

At least the majority of people say there will always be drugs no matter what happens. make me feel a bit happier

Well according to the eight mexican severed heads piled on a trucks hood photo I just saw, no probably not.

There are far too many fingers in the pie. No way the cartels want it legalized, then they would have to find other ways toake money which I imagine would be more than horrific.

All the douches at the dea would get jobs as night security watch ppl, drug treatment centers would fare well BC ppl would still want to get clean. Prov prisons would loose their easy victimes to fill their spaces where raposts pedos murderers and every other human that cmits violence against others would and should go. Police forces would actually have to work instead of relying on speak for itself evidence like a bag of drugs. I could go on and on....

It need to stop being referred to as a war and treat it like it is, a medical and economical concern. If ppl want to do drugs let them. If you are harming someone else then bring charges. But if the cartels could still import a high quantity of drugs (not like we will be growing coca and opium) theyake money, users get product at a lesser price
There are soany improvements that can be made. I don't see anything earth shattering in my lifetime happening.
