Police warn over mephedrone dangers after user 'ripped off scrotum'

"Its chemical formula is one molecule different to ecstasy"

ahahhaahaaaahahahaaaa... fuck off.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what "one molecule different" means.

It could be said of Methylone, if by molecule they mean atom, but not of mephedrone.

rofl thats darwinism in action. And yes the media have completly missed the point again. One mephedrone user rips his balls off and it gets in the press. I wonder how many people died as a direct result of alcohol on that day....

...The officer has compiled a report into the use of mephedrone across the Durham force area and part of his research has focused on online forums.

The report states: "A large number of contributors state how addictive mephedrone is and they are constantly topping up as one individual states that after using it for 18 hours his hallucinations led him to believe that centipedes were crawling over him and biting him... "This led him to receive hospital treatment after he ripped his scrotum off."

Sounds like urban myth. What's the person's name? So anything some guy posts online in a forum is deemed factual enough for drug policy and news articles. "Yeah man, I drank a bunch of this bitchin' drug and it almost made my bladder burst. It's called dihydrogen monoxide." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydrogen_monoxide_hoax

Bingo! What I was thinking when I read the story. No actual account of the aforementioned scrotum ripper, name, date it happened etc.

As stated by the comedian Bill Hicks - Today a young man on acid...thought he could fly...jumped out of a building...what a tragedy!" What a dick. He's an idiot. If he thought he could fly why didn't he take off from the ground first?

last night there was a fentanyl addict on intervention, she thought appliances were causing her joint pains.... I will believe almost anything these days.

I knew this guy in hospital once upon a time who was abusing dissociatives (I can't remember if it was vitamin K or PCP) and he believed that whilst he was asleep in the A&E once, the doctors replaced his scull and hips with plastic replacements and that this was what was causing his headaches and painful hip joints! If he wasn't ill it's be quite funny. The nurses had to constantly try and convince him it wasn't true.

Mephedrone is not a controlled substance, so why are they warning the public about what appears to be a public health issue? They don't warn people about the dangers of cigarettes, do they?

^is that a joke? They do warn people about the dangers of cigs everywhere. Everyone knows cigs are bad and its being talked about everywhere.

lol still won't ban em tho will they..

Why?

Well, there's over 60 million people in the UK. Lets say that 1 in 12 (a conservative estimate) of those people smoke. So 5 million.
Now lets say that each of those 5 million smoke on average 20 cigs per day. A 20 pack costs about £5.80, of which about £4 is tax. So, thats 5 million smokers all paying £4 a day in tax....£20million, PER DAY, straight into the governments pocket. And thats a conservative estimate...

8)And they have the nerve to demonise smokers as a drain on the NHS etc....fact is that without smokers tax there would be no NHS, nor much of anything else for that matter.

=DRant over...

Total tax as percentage of RSP = 81.2% @ £5.80 = £4.70 tax per pack of 20
Average number of cigarettes smoked a day = 15
0.75 x £4.70 = £3.52 per smoker per day

9.5 million adults in Britain smoke cigarettes = £33,487,500 per day in tax
= £12,222,937,500 a year in tax

Smoking-related diseases cost the NHS £2.7 billion a year

Hmm... so where does that other £10 billion go? Probably the same place as our road tax and fuel duty... :/

i read the report and even tho this is the first time ive seen anything about it all i could think of was i gotta try this shit haha

I did a project on the externalities of smoking and it turns out the average smoker costs the NHS less than a non-smoker, because we die young and quickly of diseases like lung cancer for which the only real treatment is copious morphine for a few months, rather than developing Alzheimer's and arthritis and requiring years of treatment and support.

Plus reducing the amount spent on state pensions...

18 hours of hallucinations on mephedrone..... yeah right

Not 18 hours of hallucinations, using it for 18 hours.

But it's still bollocks. The Registar did an article on this and interviewed the police officer whose 'report' was used in the original articles...even he dismissed it as just something read on a message board and with no way to verify it whatsoever.
