Police: Talleyville homeowner shot in attempted invasion had marijuana, LSD
A Talleyville homeowner shot in an attempted home invasion now faces drug charges after police say they found more than 40 pounds of marijuana and nearly 100 doses of LSD in his home.
Arthur Kelly, 39, of the 300 block of Brandywine Blvd., was assaulted and shot in the upper body during the incident at his home shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, Cpl. John Weglarz Sr. said.
He was treated at Christiana Hospital for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, Weglarz said.
Police learned that three people with guns tried to rob him, he said. One was a woman 20-30 years old who was wearing a black ski mask, and the other two were men, one of whom was thought to be about the same age, he said.
Assisting officers and canine teams checked his home and searched the area but did not find the suspects, Weglarz said.
“However,” he said, “officers did locate a substantial amount of marijuana in plain view within Kelly’s residence.”
A subsequent search turned up a total of 40 pounds of marijuana, 96 doses of LSD and 20 amphetamine pills in his home, Weglarz said.
After his release from Christiana Hospital, he said, Kelly was taken to county police headquarters, where he was charged with possession of marijuana, LSD, amphetamines and drug paraphernalia.
He was committed to Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $31,000 secured bail.
