Police road blitz on ravers nets drugs

Isn't it sad we have to know how to protect ourselves from the people who "Serve and Protect"

Remember, that if you get caught it's because your doing something illegal - and the job of the police is to protect the innocent (which you are no longer part of).
That said, I don't think searching cars travelling to a party (especially using sniffer dogs) is 'reasonable' at all. If I was going to a party, and not taking anything illegal with me, then I would feel invaded and victimized. Even if the majority of people doing what I'm doing (wearing funky clothes and going to a 'Rave') are doing illegal drugs, I don't think that gives the police a right to subject me to that.
I also wonder if a lawyer could sucessfully argue that such a search was unreasonable in the case of those who were caught.

Does this apply to all states? or is it just VIC specific?
A worthy addition to the FAQ I reckon, maybe a repost in law q&a is a good idea?

I heard from a friend who went that car searches were conducted under the pretense of searching for illegal fireworks (with sniffer dogs..)
the moral of the story..hide your drugs really really well ;)

I'm curious - everything I've ever read or been told tells you that the first thing you should do in these situations is to call a lawyer. So, does everyone on here have a lawyer organised (and their all-hours telephone number handy)?
I know there's groups like the legal aid - but perhaps there are independant lawyers who are 'friendly' to the cause, who would be better in these situations?

This is just great. Next thing will probably be the police and their dog's running around a rave venue sniffing everyone out.

read this on a website. what do u think of this peeps? im not certain if it was specific to pot or drugs in general. was in relation to 'ways to avoid dogs being able to sniff u out'
Wrap your stash tightly then put it in another bag with vinegar."
Wear chilli powder or juice (particularly habernero chillies) on your clothes and shoes," it advises.
Put your stash inside a full peanut butter jar."
If in a large group, get everyone to carry peppermint joints. A large number of smell sources can confuse a dog, and cause lots of dud searches

Would this just not make us stick out. Just look for the group of people that look like Voodoo Shamen. :)

lol. i was thinking there are the more discreet options like i dunno...pack a picnic of smoe sort and make sure u pack the peanut butter with of course ur extras in it. i dunno though. hehe

Vacuum sealed preserving jars. Use correctly, preheating and handling with disposable gloves. Don't allow contents (presealed in bag etc.) to make ANY contact with the rim, seal or outside of the jar.
Only use jars and seals once for this purpose. But don't throw them out, they're still great for pickles ;)
There's no guarantees this will work, but it's pretty hard to imagine any smells escaping from a negative pressure vessel. Afterall the same process is employed in biohazard labs.

I've read through most of the old threads I could find about sniffer dogs etc, but what I think is lacking that might be useful (both to a lot of people here and maybe the cops too 8( )
is if you are going to a big event, and you know there is gonna be dogs and cops searching people, what are some tips on how to get past them, and hopefully avoid them the rest of the night, after you violated any kind of safety sealing precautions you took initially?
There are gonna be maybe 20,000+ people going to * in melb this weekend, and obviously a lot of them are gonna be on something, and the cops aren't gonna be able to arrest thousands of people..but it would still be good to not be going there with a building sense of anxiety like I am developing after hearing about * 8(

who's side are you on?
we as a drug taking community are all innocent victims of persecution by law makers and enforcers. We hurt no one except maybe ourselves with our extra carricular activities, there should be no such thing as a victimless crime!
what's criminal is that drugs are illegal

errr squirrel, do the police make the laws? No, so therefore, they are just doing their job. Sure some of them may get overzealous, but the guy who thought of the kryal raid probably didnt even attend it.

secret squirrel - grow up!
We live in a country, which has certain guidelines pertaining to what is legal and what is not. The use of illicit substances is *ILLEGAL* and whether we like it or not we are expected to abide by the laws of our country. If we choose to break the laws...obviously we believe the laws to be unjust, but it's not our place (or the place of the police for that matter) to "fight for our right" unless we decide to actually take political action to get the laws changed.
The police are not the *enemy* they are an inconvenience to people who break the law, namely, a large proportion of bluelighters. Treat them with respect and know your rights. And if all else fails, move to scandinavia.

isnt there like a swipe test they use now, to see if a driver is under the influence?

I was one of those breath tested i had a full car load of party kids some going to their first ever party we all dropped at the BP few k's before the road block and the fresh meat were sweating like crazy in the back trying to hide a bong without spilling the water yet somehow we didnt seem sus at all ... go figure
