August 6, 2013 (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada) - Kelowna police are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death of a 17-year-old girl over the weekend.

Marissa Ginter was friends with three teens who were taken to the hospital on Friday, after they took what they thought was ecstasy. Police tests on the drug have determined it was actually heroin.

Kelowna RCMP are waiting on a coroner's toxicology report and would not say if Ginter ingested the same drug as the teens who became sick.

Ginter was found dead on Friday morning.

Police say a friend called 911 when she was unresponsive.

Heroin in ecstasy pills... that's... weird (I always assumed it was a myth). Not anymore it seems.

It just says "ecstasy" but not pills. Is it not possible she could have taken it as a powder?

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Edit - Yeah, messed up shit. Not that I'm proud of myself, but I was a rather massive etard (still am somehwhat) and I've never seen, nor heard of ecstasy pills adulterated with heroin.

MDMA and heroin taste nothing alike. I guess a kid might not know any better. Could be a fucked up dealer mix up lots of dealers sell both in BC. Police are dicks and wont say what PMA pills looked like, might not even give out info on this. Dead kids suit their all drugs are bad agenda just fine, even though this girl died because pure MDMA is illegal.

oral heroin can indeed be fatal, it is metabolised to morphine and absorbed in the gut, although not as potent as snorting, it could still make you very sick.

It was powder, I wonder if this was a lunatic trying to kill people? Gram of MDMA costs a fraction of what a gram of heroin costs.

A Kelowna, B.C. teen who died after taking what she believed was ecstasy had actually ingested heroin, police say.

Marissa Ginter was out with friends Thursday night when the group reportedly ran into someone who said he had samples of ecstasy. He offered the teens plastic baggies containing pinches of powder.

According to police, 17-year-old Marissa Ginter died after taking a toxic mix of drugs in Kelowna, B.C. (CTV BC)

All of them became ill after taking the powder, but Ginter, 17, died during the night.

The B.C. Coroner Service has conducted an autopsy on Ginter's body but has yet to release any information about her death.

The death came just hours before police issued a warning about tainted party drugs circulating in the Okanagan Valley city. Kelowna RCMP said it was aware of three Kelowna teens who had taken ecstasy, also known as MDMA, and became ill with stabbing abdominal pains, chronic vomiting and itching.

Police added they have since received information that there have been others who have had similar experiences after consuming street drugs.

The RCMP reminded drug users that ecstasy is made in underground labs that have no quality control. Various chemicals are used and each batch can vary in composition, potency and toxicity.

“You can never really know exactly what is in street drugs, and something that is being sold under one name could be something else entirely,” a police statement said. “Drug dealers are only in it for the profit and don't care about the health or well-being of their clients.”

Fellow teens who knew Ginter say her death has been a wake-up call.

Dusty Knorr, who went to school with Ginter, told CTV British Columbia he has friends who also became ill and may have taken the same drug that appears to have killed Ginter.

“They didn’t die, but they were in pretty rough shape, like, puking and whatnot,” he said.

“As soon as I heard that Marissa passed away, I immediately thought: I’ve got to be extra careful now. Or just steer clear of it altogether.”

Oh shit the girl snorted it

UPDATE: Heroin sold as ecstasy on Kelowna streets

KELOWNA, B.C. – Kelowna RCMP now say three teens who became ill after ingesting what they thought was ecstasy actually ingested heroin.

The teens were struck with stabbing abdominal pains, chronic vomiting and itching. While they were treated in hospital, their current conditions are unknown.

Cst. Kris Clark, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson says testing has now confirmed the teens unknowingly consumed heroin.

Cst. Clark confirms the teens who became ill were associates of the 17-year-old Kelowna girl who was found dead Friday morning in her boyfriend’s home. RCMP say foul play is not involved in Marissa Ginter’s death, but what killed her will be investigated by the BC Coroner’s Service.

Ginter’s friends witnessed her buy what she was told was ecstasy. The dealer is said to be a teen on a bike who approached them Thursday night in downtown Kelowna at the Queensway bus loop. The teens told Global news they had warned her the drug in a baggie didn’t look right. Despite the warning, she still inhaled the brown crystals and immediately knew something was wrong.

The BC Coroner Service has yet to release any information about Ginter’s death.

Ginter frequented downtown Kelowna and boasted about drinking, doing drugs and partying on social media.

useless

useless death could have been prevented if she know what she was taking

useless street dealer who doesn't know what the fuck he is dealing

even more useless wholesale dealer that doesn't know how to make money (selling heroin as xtc wtf)

oral heroin can indeed be fatal, it is metabolised to morphine and absorbed in the gut, although not as potent as snorting, it could still make you very sick.

It would have to be a pretty hefty oral dose unless this girl had very pure product. Imagining she had zero tolerance to diamorphine or morphine in general, I would still think taking 100mg of 'street-grade' heroin orally would not produce great results. She could have been sensitive to it I suppose and/or combined with alcohol.

In that part of the world I am pretty familiar with the price of MDMA. Last time I checked 1/10 of a gram of heroin was same price as a gram of MDMA, although I don't follow heroin market very close and have no idea what wholesale prices are. Maybe if you bought a huge amount it might be closer in price, this was a kid on a bike though. And why sell it to kids? There are lots of addicts who pay top dollar for heroin.
Wonder if it could be some cheap synthetic opiate like drug and the cops don't know any better? I also heard a theory that dealers are just taking a loss by selling H at less than cost to get new people hooked. Seems unlikely as most people probably swallow it, tough to get new addicts that way. Far more likely they would lace weed if they were going to try that shit.
Something doesn't add up.

Ya dope is fairly expensive here.

But this is tragic, who would dare sell heroin as mdma. Not even the high they were looking for.

Nobody knows what happened. She was 17. It is very plausible that the drugs were found and presumed to be mdma. They could have been found by a friend in their older sibligs sock drawer. I have my doubts that someone was selling heroin as mdma knowingly.

No way! Like, seriously?! I'm stunned.

“Drug dealers are only in it for the profit and don't care about the health or well-being of their clients.”

I'm not saying I disagree, however, I heard from "the dude" that dealers tend to prefer repeat customers.
