Man Arrested After Calling Police To Claim Dope

http://cbs4.com/local/marijuana.note.pot.2.1405854.html

MARATHON, Fla. (CBS4) ―

Proving there's a reason why they call it dope, a Monroe County man was arrested after Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies left a note in place of some pot plants saying, "Thanks for the grow! You want them back? Call for the price…we'll talk."

Forty-eight-year-old Steven Alan Locasio called the number on the note and asked what he had to do to get the pot plants back, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. The plants were seized from a freezer on a wooded lot off of Coco Plum Drive in Marathon. Locasio offered $200 for the safe return of the plants, which detectives agreed to.

Police met Locasio at the corner of Coco Plum Drive and Avenue H in Marathon and Locasio handed over the cash and instead of pot, he received a nice set of steel handcuffs placed on his wrists. Police searched Locasio's apartment and found 20 more pot plants, four pounds of freshly harvested marijuana, and Oxycontin pills, along with $1,380 in cash.

Locasio and his wife, Christine Locasio, were both charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and sale of marijuana.

Wow

Wow, if you even suspect someone has found your stash you burn and abandon man especially in the US....

Also this sounds borderline entrapment.. what if someone was just walking along and found a note that said call this number for free / cheap pot... If he was smart he could of probably got off with a conspiracy to obtain a controlled substance charge depending on what he said on the phone... However what they found after they got a warrant screws him....

Still sounds like entrapment to me... damn police have too much authority these days.

entrapment is when you're conned by police into commiting a criminal act you wouldn't have otherwise commited. this is nothing but pure idiocy

I'm trying to picture this.

Man plants weed. Weed gets big and strong. Cops find weed, leave ransom note. Man comes back to the plot, finds note. Man calls cops about pot. Man then goes and meets police, gives them $200 and gets arrested. Cops raid house and find 4 pounds packaged, 20 more plants and oxycontin pills. *** Man probably gets 2-5 years. ***

Wow: you're in Japan; I'm an hour north of Marathon; I find out about this from you.

More details (and mugshots, ransom-note pic, stupid reader comments) here:

In Overtown (a few blocks NW of Downtown Miami) undercovers walk up to every white guy they see and offer them sacks of hard, boy or weed. As soon as the white dude pulls out the money the cop pulls out his glock.

Some aim the glock sideways too: weird.

Also, who the fuck plants weed externally in Marathon Key? These roads are practically drawn to scale:

Planes fly over it constantly, and tourists crowd it in the winter.

What an idiot, especially considering all the other shit he had, I mean if he offered 200 for what they had it couldn't of been much stacked up to 4 pounds and 20 plants. Not to mention the fact they would obviously search his home and find the other stuff.

^ hindsight is 20/20.
The guy thought it was some kids, who didn't know the value of the plants, probably.
He trusted the note, which was silly in retrospect, but after putting that much work into the plants (and possibly being fucked up on oxy and lots of weed) he went for it.
Too bad, I say, that the PLANT is ILLEGAL in the first place.

This reminds me of the dirty trick they will pull on people with shit loads of unpaid tickets or warrants. You get something in the mail saying 'YOU WON A BIG SCREEN TELEVISION!" Come *here* to pick it up.. then they tackle ur ass to the ground.

so wait, the police broke in and entered the grow location illegally and placed a note, leading the guy to fuck himself over?

it seems like a good lawyer should be able to get this thrown out, since it never would've occurred if the police hadnt broken the law to plant the note. and i find it hard to consider that they could've had a warrant to enter the locale, because then there would be no point in leaving the note.

the fact that police get away with all kinds of illegal shit if it leads to drug busts really pisses me off.
