Police in Vallejo, California have returned over $200,000 worth of marijuana, including 60 pounds of dried bud, and boxes full of marijuana-infused food products, to two dispensaries in the city after a judge ruled that they were illegally raided. The police also returned hundreds of now-dead plants: Scott Candrell, an attorney for one of the dispensaries, stated that they would seek damages in court for anything that was lost or destroyed in the raid. The situation started last year, when in February, Vallejo police raided around six dispensaries, charging them with marijuana distribution. Given that all six of these organizations were legally following state law, the cases were dropped.

Since these raids, which cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars, Vallejo Police Department has cut their staff from roughly 150, down to 90, which has resulted in an increase in crime.

I would be happy about it except for this bit:

Now, if the "crime" is weed-dealing, I don't care at all.
But if it is real crime, then it is too bad that the city wasted money on raiding some plant growers while people suffer.

So if there's less cops I'll commit more crimes? Or more crimes just happen to get committed?

I think the cops who lost their jobs are just craving their old paychecks.

I don't think more crimes get committed when there's less cops. Crimes get committed with or without police officers.

It's sad that they have to learn their lesson at the expense of the people.

What a shining example of idiots.

You chose to fill your quotas with expensive, illegal drug busts rather than going after rapists, pedos, murderers, etc. Look where that has gotten you.

Other PDs looking to do the same, please take note.

There is a small percent of the population that will commit crimes regardless of the punishment.

There is a percentage of people who would commit crimes if the punishment was highly unlikely of ever occurring(ie zero enforcement of laws).

There is a point where more police will not improve the safety of security of society however, and that is why police should not control the number of cops or their budget.
