The headless bodies of a police chief and another man presumed to be a police officer turned up in the trunk of a police car in north Mexico, local justice officials said on Friday.

The bodies of the police chief of Agualeguas town, in Nuevo Leon state, and the apparent officer were found in the abandoned car on Friday, prosecutor Alejandro Garza told journalists.

"We assume that the crime is linked to organized crime, due to the savagery of the killing," Garza said.

Mexico's powerful drug gangs often carry out beheadings and torture to send messages to their enemies, and deadly attacks occur almost daily amid a military clampdown on organized crime.

Agualeguas is 130 kilometers (80 miles) north of state capital Monterrey, which has seen rising drug attacks in recent weeks, including clashes between drug gangs and security forces that left two students dead in crossfire, and road blocks set up by suspected drug gang members.

Clashes in a nearby town on Thursday left six suspected drug gang members dead.

More than 15,000 have died in suspected drug violence in the past three years in Mexico despite the deployment of some 50,000 soldiers across the country.

The end to the War on Drugs is the only way this violence is going to stop. Weed dealers in California are already starting to shit their pants with November coming around, I guess it's time to look for a new job.

Somehow I find it hard to believe that big corporations wouldn't find their niche in the drug world if they became legal. Where there are $ bills, corporations are right behind.

Still

Corporations > Gangs that behead who they don't like (even though they're moving closer all the time.)

The war on drugs isn't a war on drugs - it's a war on personal freedom and a great excuse to set up a fascist police state. We're seeing it in Mexico, and I fear we might see it more beyond events like G-20 in the US.

the police in mexico are corrupt but also you have private vigalianty gangs cleansing the streets of so called criminals or drug addicts its a total mess as they are also operating outside of the law its really horrible mexico is a beautiful country with an amazing culture and people such a shame

I'd be scared shitless to be a vigilante against the drug gangs in Mexico. You're literally asking to be gunned down by an AK.
