you and I will always know
Whatsup bl? Ok so I got a group of poker buddies I play with pretty much weekly. Nothing major just 50 bucks, tournament style. So here's the issue...

Where I come from whatever you say you have is your hand. If you say you have 2 pair and also have a straight then you have 2 pair. That's the rule. Because of this rule no one is supposed to say shit until the hand is over.

Ok so tonight I go all in with kings and 8s (big blind). The flop was already down and I had my 2 pair so, big stack calls me cause he had me way covered. Turns out he was chasing a straight. He all come on give me a 9! When he could use an ace too. The ace comes down on the river and he let's out a groan of defete and starts counting chips when... Some stupid douchebag tells him he caught the ace!

I just conceded the hand but, I was far from happy with this. This is the second time one of these morons has done this and last time I was last 2 at the table so we just split the winnings. This time nothing, I was in the last 4 so, ya. Idiot that said it didn't even say my bad or anything.

What do you guys think about this? 50 bucks isn't a lot of money but its enough to care about ya know. The table went silent and the dude that won even said he was only looking for a 9... Just pisses me off to lose to someone's mistake when I couldve doubled up on someone's mistake instead.

Sorry about the ramble but, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Hopefully I'm not totally insane.

you sound like a fucking douche trying this shit in a home game of all places lol.

On top of that you are completely wrong, if he has shown his hand and hasnt mucked the cards his hand plays. It doesnt matter what he says he has, if he shows down a winning hand then the pot is his.

Stop trying to fuck over your friends in what should be a friendly environment

Ok, maybe you missed it when I said this IS how we play. I didn't ask what you thought of the rule douchebag. This has developed after countless heads ups where people collecting their winnings suddenly learn they lose. I along with most of the other players have miss called a hand and paid the price. When everyone involved is fucked up it has been decided by the group that your hand is what you say it is. You are responsible for yourself and no one else BECAUSE it is a home game. Fucking Christ I thought my post was plenty detailed but thanks for jumping to the conclusion that the guys I play with are a bunch of push over morons, idiot.
Nothing like good ole bluelight in getting some righteous idiot to voice an irrelevant fact.

Anyways the issue was resolved.

Well, is there an agreed upon rule against advising a person, once the cards are shown, as to the hand he has? Or is it simply your opinion that no one should say anything until the shown cards are identified as a hand?

In any event, if the rule isn't being honored very often, it might be better to simply discard it. It's not general practice, and if it's causing conflict in the game, there's no reason to keep it.

^ that's a very valid point. The rule is speak only for yourself but both rules are honored very inconsistently. New comers are often allowed a few free passes but the people in question were far from new. Maybe we should try and play with casino rules but, the problem with that is the rule itself was born basically from one particular nearly violent outcome about a year ago. The thing is no one questioned what the rule was, everyone knew he should have kept his mouth shut. What pissed me off even moreso than losing 50 bucks from someone breaking the rule was the person who did it not even apologizing.

4 hours into a game where there is no security can get a little hairy. This is why the rule is in place. Anyways whatever, there's nothing I can do now. I guess I should just play at the casino, I do live an hour from the worlds biggest poker room. :)

Why didnt u just call him out?? According to your rule....he thought he lost...so he should've lost....When the other guy said something it was too late....should;ve said tough shit....

So IMO, you are the one at fault for not enforcing your own rule...Why didnt u say anything??? Or at the very least call that other dude who called it out a douchebag....Woulda made u feel better...lol

I just think yall should abolish that rule though since it seems its only followed half the time....You've gotten burned both ways....So say something at the beggining of the game and how u got fucked..

Dont give free passes....It all or nothing if yall wanna play by that rule....Fuck em dude...

I did say something but, it wasn't the fault of the person I was playing against. The mistake was made by someone else at the table for opening his mouth when he shouldn't have. I ended up getting my money back but, it wouldve been a lot nicer to finish top 2 instead of 4. Anyways like I said twice now, the issue has been resolved. I wanted to take the big mouths fucking teeth out but I was happy to take my money back and bounce. Thanks for the replies though guys. I'm done playing with these guys now anyway after I wrote this post I realized that about half the games played have someone making a really dumb mistake whether it be against that rule or some idiot telling everyone what he folded before the hand is over... It gets frustrating and its just not worth it.

we used to use this rule also.

thing is....if you're playing with friends it's a stupid rule.

why? because you end up getting angry at each other.

it's supposed to be a friendly game among friends right? well, this rule will make it a not-so-friendly game.

also, if there's drinking going on it makes it harder for ppl to read their hand making thing worse.

just do away with this rule.....

Well they aren't exactly friends anyway. Thing is the rule started from someone calling their cards wrong and losing the entire game because of it only to have someone point out a straight. 20 minutes of holding people back from beating on each other later the rule came up to make it clear cut. I think you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. These guys aren't too bright anyways as I said its just not worth it to play with them anymore.

On an unrelated note a friend gave me an invite to a big cash game at this shady characters house. Well I was gonna start playing there next week until dude started advertising on craigslist. Shortly after what happened... The cops? No. The place got robbed by 4 dudes with guns. Fuckers made off with about 7k and what can you do, cause you sure as fuck can't call the cops. Too bad to cause dude had girls from the local strip clubs giving masages at the tables and from what I hear there were "other" prizes available.

Why not go the other way, and always play 'cards talk'?

That way, if someone noticed his hand, and pointed out, it's all good, he wins (which he deserved to). If no-one notices, then no harm done, you get the same result as if you were playing that he had to declare his hand. Playing the way you guys do seems to guarantee trouble, unless everyone can learn to always keep their mouths shut (which doesn't seem to happen).

Sounds like it's all academic at this point then.

But anyway, keeping it academic, I've got to go with Infinite Jest here.
