i know this post is pretty long, but please, please, please bare with me and take the time to read it.

i don't know whats going on; it hurts to just type this. for the last day or two my left arm has been swollen to almost twice the size of my right arm. its not like i simply missed my shot (although its a possibility) where just the spot of injection hurts for a day or maybe two; as the pain decreases everyday. my whole forearm is absolutely killing me, from my wrist to my elbow and it seems the pain has been increasing from day to day. there are only two physical symptoms that i have noticed; one being the swelling and second being a red spot (almost like a bruise) that is about the size of a dime, maybe a little smaller, that has appeared out of nowhere. my arm pretty much hurts all the time (mild pain when sitting still) but when i try to bend my arm the pain is pretty damn bad...there is also a pain on the top side of my arm. also, i am unable to fully extend my arm to a straight position without the pain being so unbearable. lastly, my arm is warm to the touch; there is a noticeable difference between the temperature of my left arm compared to the right one. someone please help.... is this going to go away naturally like other pains do from missed shots/hit nerves/hit arteries? its been about 2-3 days with no improvement and i am becoming more and more worried as time goes on. i should also add that last night, when trying to find a comfortable position to sleep (an almost impossible task) there was a piercing pain in my chest; only on the left side (same side as the 'injured' arm) that seems to be my a pain coming from my heart, making me even more concerned about my condition. has anyone else gone through a similar situation? any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

some replied and suggested that i may have hit an artery.....however;

i think i have hit an artery before. what happened to me that time was i felt a rush of heat flow to my fingertips and back up my arm. it was a VERY warm sensation, hot would be a more accurate adjective. but it went away in under a half hour, but left behind a pain at the spot of injection. the pain did not last nearly as long as this current problem i am having.

in fact, i did not notice anything unusual during my injection which makes it even more peculiar. it is hard for me to pinpoint the exact injection that caused this to happen, but it is possible that it was caused by an injection i did on the outside of my wrist that went a bit numb at the spot of injection for just a few minutes. however, i certainly felt the full effects of the shot, as i was nodding out harder than i had for a long time.

BUT, like i said, i am not certain that this is the shot that caused this problem i am having. as mentioned earlier, i can not pinpoint the exact injection that caused this, but i can only assume that it was caused by a bad reaction to a heroin injection.

no, no fever. i had actually typed this thread last night but forgot to post it. since last night i have gained a bit more mobility in my arm and the pain has reduced a bit. the swelling is still there, but it is much more bearable than it was last night, which is when it was at its peak of pain. however, the pain in my chest/heart is still there. it tends to hurt most the more active i am (when my heart rate increases) and/or when i take deep breathes or sneeze. i am very hesitant to go to the doctor for obvious reasons; especially if i don't have to and my symptoms will go away naturally.

are there any medications i can take at home/over the counter? ibuprofen? aspirin? advil? anything? i appreciate the responses.

would an infection/sepsis explain the heart problems i have been experiencing? i just looked up sepsis symptoms and didn't see anything about heart problems. if it is not better by the time i wake up tomorrow i am going to strongly consider visiting the ER. is there anyway to go to the ER anonymously? or do i have to give my name resulting in all that information being transferred to my primary doctor?

this part is a bit nasty and i don't know if it has anything to do with it, but normally i have been very constipated. however, lately i'm scared to let a fart go in fear of shitting myself. i've had a bad case of diarrhea the last week or so, but this all started roughly a week before the whole issue with the arm began...

We can't tell you how to treat this because we don't know what is wrong.

I can understand your hesitation re: seeing a doctor, but it would be stupid not to in this instance.

if it was a blood infection, wouldn't it spread to the rest of my body?? i find it interesting that it is confined to just this one specific area of my left arm..

Swolen arm that hurts, heart and chest pain, especially when active.

STOP AND JUST GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR

Really when it's the left arm too.....Man, go to the ER.......I know your scared but it's better than obsessing on here what it may be.

hospital.....now.

if you are concerned you can't get your fix, well don't be, they will give you methadone to keep you well. Might even get some IV dilaudid or morphine for the pain.

Not necessarily, It won't just spread all over in day or 2. The blood being infected means its carrying the infection all around the body, but certain parts are more susceptible to infection and will succumb to it quicker. It already sounds like it possibly spread to the endocardium, in these cases the right side of the heart and tricuspid valve are usually effected first.

Oh and no you can't go anonymously to the ER. They won't even touch you until you provide your personal info, at least a name and DOB, maybe a SSN will be required. Only way they treat an unidentified person is if they are not able to identify themselves and have absolutely life threatening concerns to be dealt with.

You have an infection go to the hospital I almost died last summer from an infection I held off going to the hospital untill it was almost to late I had a fever of 104 and my arm was mad swollen ended up being a blood clot and also cellulites infection shit was scary

It sounds like you might have compartmental syndrom, a serious medical emergency.
Go to the Emergency Room immediately if you'd like to keep your arm!

just to update: i didn't go to the ER but i did see my doctor a day or two after starting this thread. turned out i had/have a blood clot in my left arm. i was prescribed some antibiotics and something else. after a sonogram revealed the clot i was also given some blood thinners. i have regained full motion in my arm. does the clot just go away though?? im scared it may break of into my heart of brain.

It's very possible. I was on blood thinners for a clot in my foot and was explained the risk of it finding it's way to my heart. My whole chest was bruised from the amount of blood thinners I was on. You should be having a follow up with your doctor right? I would imagine s/he can tell you the next step in taking care of it. Don't just let it go though.

i dont understand why people just dont go to the ER or go to their doctor. i was in a discussion with a doctor one day about this and this is what he said and he told me i could spread this around because it is so common that people think that they will get in legal trouble by going to the ER or doctor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a medical professional I know the rules regarding patient confidentiality (we have to take refresher courses every couple of years---no joke), and the consequences for breaking them are very serious (lose your license, get fired, etc..). There are only 5 situations when a doctor can disclose ANY information about your visit (besides to people directly involved in your care), and even then it is only the specific info they are required to report.

Only 5 situations
1) suspected child or elder abuse (spousal abuse laws vary state-to-state; fucked up I know)
2) gunshot or stabbing injuries
3) diagnoses of a reportable communicable disease (they only report non-identifiable info)
4) threatening to harm yourself or others
5) suspected intoxication + driving

Taking drugs would not fall under child abuse. For a report to be sent to child protective services there has to be well documented, suspicious findings in a child.

Going to a doctor and telling them about any type of illegal usage will NEVER get you in trouble, or find its way to the police. The system is specifically set up that way, because doctors need to full picture to safely and accurately treat you.
