First off I am new on here and not sure if I am posting in the right section so bare with me. I need help. I have been IVing opiates and other drugs for years now. Tonight is the first time I have had any type of complication. I will be as detailed as possible because I have googled and found similar situations but not exactly the same. I set up a shot of ritalin and injected into the crook of my right arm. The vein there is fat and I always favor that spot. I was using a short tip 30g needle. I registered and began pushing it in then I stopped and registered again making sure I was still in. I felt no pain at all. I pulled the pin out and applied some preassure onto the site with a clean napkin. I got a decent rush and nothing was out of the ordinary. I got in the shower and started to feel my arm becoming slightly numb and noticing it start to swell a bit. After I got dressed and laid down there was a golf ball sized lump forming on the inside of my elbow and my entire forearm was swelling up and becoming very tight down to my wrist. It felt mushy not hard at all and there was no localized lump like a normal miss. It's been about 5-6 hours and the swelling has stopped but remained inflammed just not as bad. It's not red or dis colored in any way. The only pain is a dull ache. What could have caused this????? It does not seem like an infection because of the rather immediate swelling....I don't think it was a miss either because it was virtually painless and IV Rits hurt like a mutha even if less than a single cc is missed. Has this happened to anyone before?? What could be the cause??? Damaged vein?

never IV'd ritalin. honestly dude you should not be IVing ritalin or any pharmaceutical for that matter. I know it is repeated millions of times (people seem to not grasp the concept yet) but pharmaceuticals contain binders, fillers, and other shit that is not meant to be directly injected into your bloodstream.

now i dont want to just ride your ass about it but dude if you're shooting pharms then you should expect this kind of shit to happen. im guilty myself but i've come a long way from those days. i learned how stupid and irresponsible it is to do such things.

hopefully somebody with more knowledge on IV ritalin can help because all i can say is ice your arm and stay alert to your body. it sounds like maybe an allergic reaction to a filler in the ritalin. not sure. if it gets worse obviously head to the ER.

once when i did a shot of meth my whole body got red and blotchy and extremely itchy. my skin was hot to the touch and burned. i was freaked out but it went away within 2 hours.

how did you prepare your shot? that can play a major role in adverse reactions to IVing. be safe man. you think its all fun and games until the doctor tells you your arm is fucked and has to be amputated to save your life....it may literally cost you an arm and a leg :\ ...shit to think about.

Thanks for the response and despite all the dangers I still go ahead and do it. I just crushed the beads and added water filtered through three diff pieces of cotton. I should mention that after the arm swelled a did several more shots in diff spots with no adverse effects. Which leads me to believe their is some type of damage to the vein.....I really don't know tho

this may not be the safest response but ice it and pay attention to it. If the swelling does not reduce after about 24 hours i would see a doctor or head to the ER. better to be safe than sorry. usually if it is nothing majorly serious this will go away or START to go away within 24 hours.

my advice would be switch to ethylphenidate by finding a reliable source and using as many safety precautions as possible. even if it seems overboard. i'm talking bacteriostatic water, 91% isopropyl alcohol applied to injection site prior to injection, micron filter, sterilize all utensils used to prepare your shot, and using proper technique when injecting which can be found here BL IV Info Megathread.

If you dont have the money for all this then save up because your life is worth the precaution.

Also this probably belongs in BDD.

It sounds like you missed the shot

I would have a heat compress (warm wash cloth) over the site (after you're not bleeding)

Please keep in mind injecting tablets or beads = tons of inactive ingredients, bad for your body.
