Sony PlayStation 3 owners in multiple regions (including North America, Europe, and Australia) are facing the inability to sign into the PlayStation Network online gaming service, corrupted user data and inability to play some games online or off. The problems are accompanied by the 8001050F error code.

When they try to load up certain games — including the just-released Heavy Rain — they receive the error code and the following message: “Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will now quit.” After the message, the system reboots. The problems seem to mostly affect older, “fat” models of the PS3. Slim models are either not impacted or affected far less frequently.

Trophies are prizes given to players for accomplishing certain tasks in each game; the trophies are synced with the PlayStation Network so players can compare their achievements. Gaming blog Joystiq found reports that the consoles were having their dates reset to 12/31/1999; that might somehow be related to the trophy syncing problems.

Once reports of the problems started to appear, Sony tweeted: “We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.” That’s all we’ve heard from them so far. There’s no solution just yet; even disconnecting your console from the Internet doesn’t help. We’ll post an update immediately when we hear about a resolution.

I tried playing CODMW2 online, Connected the first time, was in Team Deathmatch for like 30 second's then got disconnected..Few hours after that i couldn't even connect, then i tried again, got online and my rank's/level's were all f##ked up...

Bullshit..... Anyone else that cant connect?

no, because i have a 360.
haha ps3 owners, this is what you get with a lesser service and console!

mwuahahaha :P

seriously though i know how it is with downed networks, it can suck total ass.

im appalled that this is the most you've heard from Sony.

^ It hasn't been fully fixed because some people can get in, some cant. Lucky for me though i can so it's back to Modern Warfare 2 :D

^ what planet are you on? The problem was an internal clock error, Sony had used the same chipset that Microsoft had used in their Zune. The one that did this exact same thing back in 2008. After exactly 24 hours the chipset realizes what day it is and self-rights, thus allowing you to once again use the PSN, and play games. This was like the official release from sony late Monday night. If you're still having problems with your Ps3, it may have the YLOD.

And Sega 420, unlike Microsoft's lame live, this is the FIRST time the PSN has been down for anything other than maintenance.

Don't try to sync your trophies until it fixes, you could lose them permanently.

There should be a fix out already, the problem only seems to affect newer games.

wow i miss mw2 online multiplayer one of the most addicting games ever created.

I didn't even realize this. Must've missed the problem.

Anyways I have both systems. The ps3 allows a lot more freedom than the m$ 360. What I really like is it doesn't have a dashboard made for kids and its quiet. Even after sending out my 360s for 2 rrod each they both sound like a muffled lawn mower. One was so bad I just couldn't play it anymore.

When the ps3 price drop happened I grabbed one and haven't looked back. I no longer play halo so the 360 is literally useless to me. I highly recommend switching. The only reason I even went with Xbox was halo and that is over. Its good to be back

It didn't affect the slim models Johnny. But some of these guys here are illiterate, the problem has been fixed since 3:30pm Monday. I dunno why, but sometimes when people are wrong on the internet it bothers me. Probably has to do something with the unlimited source of information and they don't bother to use like .000001% of it.
