Playstation 3

On a separate note, it'll be amusing to see how well the "stop/go" controls (i.e, accelerate/decelerate, designed for the 360 triggers) carries over onto the glorified R2/L2 buttons the ps3 touts as triggers, in the new GTA.

I automatically assumed you have a piece of shit TV, because you're a cheap person with piece of shit taste. Sorry if I was wrong in assuming you had a cheap TV.

Children, can we stop the bickering and drama and get back to talking about "useful" things like the PS3...

If you want to dick size about your "system" do it by PM, or do it with yourself... you never know how much you might enjoy techno-masturbation...

So I bought Turning Point: Fall of Liberty today and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. When I saw the previews I was psyched. I thought a game that started with the Nazi invasion of New York City would be awesome. Unfortunately the character and AI movement have a glitchy look to them in certain scenarios, and the storyline is pretty weak. Half the time you're just walking around killing Nazis with only a vague idea of where you're headed. The combat, too, I found disappointing. It's too easy for its own good. You just kind of line up the iron sights and pull the trigger. Tactics don't play much of a part it seems.

I haven't tried the online yet but I'm hoping it offers some replay value to the game. If the plot wasn't so damn I'd say put this one off until you can get it cheaper used.

I think most people that argue which system is better between xbox 360 and PS3 are feeling a little worried about their purchase and want to justify the money spent. I have a 360 now and am happy with it, and from what I understand the xbox 360 is a better system RIGHT NOW. The PS3 is still glitchy and developers are having trouble making games on it. However, the PS3 might turn out to be the better system in the long run. If you want the best system right now, buy the 360. By the time the PS3 takes over, IF it does, the price will be reduced dramatically and be worth the purchase.

In a year or two when companies start developing games from the ground up with the PS3 in mind they'll blow away anything the XBox 360 has to offer. PS3 is a better investment.

very Very VERY true

xbox 360 needs xbox live...... and xbox live NEEDS YOUR MONEY!!!!! :X

So you could throw extra money down the drain just to be able to download demos and play online games with people.... or you could just buy a ps3 and not spend a single cent after the fact =D

and the ps3 is more than just a gaming console, its a Media center, and a damn good one.

How do you know that the PS3 will beat out the 360? Developers may never be able to code properly for the games without spending way too much time and money. Even if they do figure it out, will it be too late and will xbox basically control the market and outnumber the PS3 in games by such a large margin that it doesn't even matter anymore which system is more powerful? The truth is no one knows who will win the console war, so it is pointless to even try to guess at which one will be better in the future.

They're already "coding properly" for the PS3. It's not some new alien architecture that is impossible to figure out, it's just a new way of doing things that takes a couple years to get used to. I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying it costs so much to develop for the PS3, but I can assure you, developers aren't concerned about the time or money they have to put into PS3 games. They are developing, and will continue to develop, titles for the PS3 regardless of other factors, because if they don't they lose potential revenue from a large wide-open market.

You know what? I'd actually recommend a PS2.

The Wii is nice but its still too expensive for its own good.

The 360? All it has to offer is war-sims (not my thing), and good games like Oblivion or some others ar available for PC or other systems. Plus you have to pay for networking. AND you're supporting micro$soft! No thank you!

By the time all the good games are out on the PS3, you would have bought the HDTV you need to experience them properly, and the Blu-Ray movies you can enjoy on it. For now, it, too, is a scandalous waste of money.

So I will stick with my PS2, with its wonderful selection of (not overpriced) games that will take years to get through.

sorry mods and others, i know this is a bit off topic, but what would you guys recommend for an HDTV?

like the best one for gaming. what brand, what kind of specs should i watch out for, and why isnt jus going out and buying any old TV, that displays in HD, a bad thing?

preferablly something thats not a few grand though. if i get around to it i might buy an HDTV myself since i just bought a PS3 2 weeks ago, and i wanna be able to enjoy metal gear solid 4 the way it should be enjoyed. possibly round 8-900$ ? dont let that narrow down your choices, i jus wanna really know what makes one HDTV stand out from the other.

thanks in advance

Saucy,

I was in the same spot as you a few months ago. Wanted to buy a PS3 and a new TV asap.

Look for a high refresh rate, brightness, and contrast ratio. Make sure your TV is 1080p, as PS3 supports this. I have a 40" Sony Bravia... get a hardon everytime I play COD4.

Also - Don't hesitate to go out and shop in person at some stores. A lot of stores will have clearances on TV's that are going out of circulation, and won't hesitate to cut the price in half a lot of times. These sales are not advertised online. I saw a normally $2,500 Samsung on sale for $1,100 at Best Buy last week.

yea man, video games on HDTV's jus bout make me shit my pants everytime i see em, and how beautiful they are.

right now, if i were to buy one, my budget would only be a few hundred.
so i guess im goin down the road of the 27" walmart HDTV.

if it shows in HD, does it really matter what brand it is?

i really dont know shit bout em.

There's a lot that matters.

Do a wiki search on HD TV's. Learn about contrast ratio, progressive vs integrated, refresh, etc etc.

It might be in your best interest to save up for a month or so and purchase a TV that you'll be happy with and will last.

If you want to have a more informed discussion about getting a new TV, you could start a thread in the Science and Technology forum. You will get a wider audience, and could possibly get more interesting and diverse views that you may get here.

CB :)

Then they will tell you to UTSF. Do a search on a HD-TV's in there. I'm sure you'll find some wonderful discussion already started that you can jump in on.

Chaos Butterfly - I'd expect more coming from you.

TR:)
