Placebos Are Getting More Effective. Drugmakers Are Desperate to Know Why (GOOD READ)

Yeah long but good read haha

Just kind of a random thought but I wonder if this could make a good supplement to help cutters lose the urge to SI.... narcan doesn't even get you messed up right? No relief, no reason to hurt yourself..
first you'd want to test to see if opiates are actually effective in reducing the motivation to self inflict harm. even if opiates are responsible for the reward of it, dopamine may be more responsible for the motivation for it. though i suppose there are dopamine antagonists as well. then again, there are complications...

aren't cutters the sort of people, if endorphins give them the release, that would enjoy opiates? so why would you think a drug that does the opposite of what opiates do would make them feel any better? it may block the reward of that, plus all other rewards

^I'm a little confused about what ya mean about blocking all rewards?

I knew narcan would block opiates, but I never thought about your natural painkillers, so I'm assuming endorphins would be blocked too. It wouldn't help right off the bat with motivation to cut, but if you don't get a reward for doing so you wouldn't really have incentive to do it again. It wouldn't make them feel better, but it would (in theory) eliminate cutting as means of relief, so they would have to find another way to manage the stress.

I dunno if you could GET people to willingly take it, but I could see it maybe being useful in psyche centers if it worked.. And maybe if people in out paitent wanted the extra help while trying to stop.. in a way like that pill that makes you sick if you drink alcohol, but.. not really.. haha
