Opioids PK cross tolerance?

So probably a few years ago, the last OTC painkiller stopped working for me when i get headaches. (APAP, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, anything you can buy OTC) none of them work AT ALL anymore for any pain. My back has been hurting A LOT recently, so a friend of mine at school gave me 6 tylenol 3's with codeine. Me being me, I took all 6 at once, down the hatch. NOTHING HAPPENED. At ALL. Mentally I felt 100% normal and very much there, and physically I was still in just as much pain as before I took them. Is it possible that taking aspirin/ibuprofen/apap over the years has made me tolerant to opiates? Correct me if im wrong, but 180mg of codeine SHOULD have some effect should it not?
 
You definitely should have felt something if you have no tolerance to opiates.

I do not believe that NSAIDS etc have a cross tolerance with opiates.

You may be in the 7% of people who codeine doesn't work for. You unfortunate souls do not produce the enzyme that metabolises codeine into morphine.

You may not be one of those people though, did you taake the pills just after a large meal perchance?
 
Codeine is very weak, and it's possible if you have a "natural tolerance" that you wouldn't feel much. Personally the first time I ever felt anything from oxycodone was when i took 35-40mgs. even 20mgs with absolutely no tolerance barely touched me.
 
Some people don't have the liver enzyme to turn codeine into morphine, so, for them, codeine is worthless.

There isn't any cross-tolerance between NSAIDs and codeine.
