The son of Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour was jailed yesterday after showing the ‘ultimate disrespect’ to Britain’s war dead by swinging from the Cenotaph during the student riots.

Charlie Gilmour, 21, reeled in shock as he was handed a 16-month sentence for his ‘outrageous and deeply offensive behaviour’ during a drug-fuelled rampage that also saw him attack Prince Charles’s car.

The Cambridge University history student was ‘out of his mind’ on a cocktail of LSD, Valium and whisky when he laid siege to the royal convoy during the tuition fee protests in London on December 9 last year.

He threw a bin at a car carrying royal protection officers and leapt on the bonnet of the vehicle escorting the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to the Royal Variety Performance.

But Judge Nicholas Price scoffed at the excuse, saying: ‘For you, a young man of undoubted high intelligence, education and background, to profess you didn’t know what the Cenotaph represented defies belief.

Acid & alcohol can result in bizarre behavior without any inhibitions. In fact, alcohol messes up the potential benefits of just about any other drug IMO.
 
16 months wtf for that? That's nuts!

Seeing as he is David Gilmoure's son i would be surprised if he wasn't on acid :\
 
Yea 16 months seems a little over the top for "swinging" on a monument.

That just doesn't seem fair, if it had been me, I would've been like, you would be in trouble but Pink Floyd is so good I'll just forget about all of this...jk haha
 
Perhaps 16 months was a bit harsh. But it's irresponsible drug use and unruly behavior like this that makes it difficult for the mainstream to accept drug use as legitimate for recreation and personal exploration. He should have tripped in a safe place. I have little sympathy for people who get violent and destroy the property of others.
 
Its not really just for swinging from the monument, its also for attacking the Princes' car which I really liked watching the royals in fear when I saw that picture of them being attacked. I despise the royal family..Death to the royal family and death to the queen! they are disgusting oppressive greedy tyrants

I bet he doesnt remember anything from the whole thing. Atleast i have that problem with alcohol+lsd(and that actually sounds like something i would do lol). Sucks to go to jail for something you dont remember.
 
Fuck the royal family and that monument.. all arbitrary things and all.. that judge can eat a dick, the son of david gilmour is the real royality!!

Hey it's better (in most peoples opinions not mine) then tossing a bomb at the royals car. So it could have been a shade worse :\
