Pill testing methods?

Hey guys,

Does anyone have pointers with testing?

I've noticed that if I do the scrape and drop the reagent, the scrapings "splatter". I was wondering if it matters what order I do the test. I.e. Can I first put a drop of the reagent down and then scrape some of the pill onto the drop?

Also, do you guys do any stirring/agitation to mix and get quicker/better reactions?

How much are you scraping off? It really does not take a whole lot. I'd suggest cutting the pill in half on a plate, and using the 'crumbles' to test with. If it doesn't easily crumble, use a small amount of scrapings. I think you might be using too much, causing it to splatter when the reagent hits it.

You can swirl the reagent on the plate, but I do not suggest stirring it with anything (NO METALS!)...reagents are caustic and not to be fiddled with too much.
