Photo Update

I've come a long way, man!!!!!! I have 6 months and 1 day clean from all drugs and alcohol.

I've been taking pics to compare my physical changes and, I gotta say, I can see a difference!

Me as a junkie a little over 180 days ago:

thanks, spork! I just noticed the blood on my pants and the beat down look on my face from before. You can still see the tracks on my outside forearm but that's cool it used to look like this:

thanks, Dave! I gotta work on my upper chest and obliques a little but I'll get there. I think my first goal should be to clean my bathroom mirror though

What kind of work out are you doing? I can see that you have made progress. I, on the other hand, have stalled as far as making any more gains. Maybe becasue I do a lot of cardio every week.

Newspaper and windex for mirrors? Won't the newsprint smudge them? --- I am not good at cleaning mirrors either. I've used windex and a towel, then white vinegar and a towel, but either method only seemed to make them dirtier.

mariposa - thank you! Can you believe I knew that one already? It also works well with stainless steel. We use sandwich wrap at work on occasion to get that polished shine

socko - you ride the HELL out of that bike! I really could use a good cardio regimen but cigarettes seem to get in the way.

I was doing daily pull ups, chin ups and push ups for 4 and a half months and then I started hitting the gym (sometimes twice daily) for a month and a half now.

I do chest, shoulders and abs one day and then back and abs the next. I rarely do arms because they get big for no reason at all and it looks weird.

Also, I use machines but plan on doing free weights soon. Typically I'll do as much weight as I can for 12 reps. After that set is done I knock the weight down by 50% and do another 10 to 12 reps immediately after the first set. Then I knock the weight down another 50% and do another 10 to 12 reps right away.

so say I am benching 150lbs. I will do 12 reps of that then knock it down to 75lbs and do 10 to 12 reps. Then I knock it down to 30lbs and do 10 to 12 reps. I don't rest in between.

Also, I use NO Xplode or Black Powder before each workout and then have a protein shake afterwards.

It feels really good and I'm allowing myself some pride in this because it has required consistency, discipline and commitment. Plus, I get a lot of compliments for being in good shape for being 40 years old. I never got compliments on my physique before! Its kinda neat!

Do something, anything, for 5 minutes, every day for a week. No excuses. Anyone and everyone can do 5 minutes of activity. Your knee makes it a bit tough, but that just means you need to be careful.

Once you get a week of that under your belt, keep going. No less than 5 minutes a day, but you can go for more if you like as long as you don't ever miss a day. People who alternate exercises or worry about rest days etc... are either quite advanced and are working to or near exhaustion when they work out, or think that they're quite advanced and etc... :)

The key isn't what you do, but how you do it. Once you make exercise a part of your daily life, you won't ever want to stop. You'll feel weird on the days where you are inactive. But start small, and recognize that you probably are already getting this 5 minutes a day and just don't recognize it. Gradual, incremental changes last; expecting sudden and drastic changes to last will (in most cases, and for most people) set you up for disappointment.
