I would like to discuss 2-Phenyl-GABA, PICAMILON (N-NICOTENOYL-GABA), and Baclofen. These 3 chemicals are simple modifications of the GABA molecule, in much the same way that GHB and GBL are simple modifications of the GABA molecule. Baclofen has been used as a conventional pharmaceutical for a couple years now in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis and Epilepsy. Picamilon has struck popularity among the Nootropic/Life extension crowd, as it has mild MAOI properties, and reduces anxiety without causing somnolence. 2-Phenyl-GABA is being marketed towards weightlifters with fervency as a way of calming anxiety due to steroids, as well as promoting "restful rebuilding sleep", and GH levels (It is being marketed to fill the hole left by GHB in its dissappearance).

2-Phenyl-GABA info:
http://forum.avantlabs.com/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=6504 (Warning: this is marketing information by a Nutrition products manufacturer who is trying to SELL this product... they SAY its not addictive, but my guess is its alot like GHB, but a little less fun. Yes, shocking as it may be, people will LIE to sell a product!!!)
It is pharmacologically classified as a mood elevator, cognitive enhancer (nootropic), anxiolytic (anti-anxiety treatment), and tranquilizer.
Sounds like G to me!?

Picamilon info:
Picamilon is the Niacin molecule bonded to the GABA molecule.

Baclofen(e): A Legal Analog of Gamma-OH (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) 2 experiences.

Ok, thats about all I know, oh yeah, all 3 are legal and obtainable within the US. There is much scientific research on all 3 dating back many years, but they are relatively BRAND NEW when it comes to being abused by the general population. As usual if its fun, don't expect it to last very long! If its not fun, don't bother to try a huge dose of it, you're likely to kill yourself doing so. In fact, DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID LIKE BUYING SOME AND EATING 10 GRAMS, unless you've taken the time to research EVERYTHING and know exactly what the fuck you're doing!

The purpose of this thread is to figure out whether they are not widely reported as fun yet due to A: nobody has tried them yet; B: they're fun and people want to keep quiet about it; C: they are NOT fun and possibly dangerous.

My guess is the answer is a mixture of A, B and C for all 3 of the compounds, in varying proportions.

I can't answer your questions but have seen these products advertised and I wonder if they may be good for alleviating symptoms of benzo withdrawl.

I've had baclofen and they never seemed to do anything really.. I took them while suffering from insomnia, alone. No effects. I took them with hydrocodone and carisoprodal (soma) too but I couldnt tell if effects were present, because of the effects of the other drugs. Probably not though.

Picamilon is not anything like GHB/GBL, it does have anxiolytic effects, but there is no sedative effect like that of the former mentioned drugs.

Baclofen is the least interesting of these to me as well, however I just like the idea of a clean (maybe this is the question here - is it clean?) gaba affecting downer (?) which doesn't have the same method of addiction as benzos....

The one I was most interested in was 2-Phenyl-GABA as the few weightlifting threads I've found are raving about it...

Regarding 2-Phenyl-GABA:
Like i said before, there are two ways to take this stuff. a couple of caps every day as an adaptogen type thing, and in occasional very large dosages (like 8-10 caps) for an acute stress reducer and "feel good" product. At this large dose it sort of feels like a mild benzo but without the fogginess.

Doesn't sound to good to me...

Higher doses would prove more affective but most likely more dangerous. This stuff sounds interesting, time to do some research.

You forget, a lot of the actions of GHB/GBL is through the GHB receptor, not through the GABA-B receptor.

I found a bunch of papers on these subjects on PubMed and pubs.acs.org:

Phenibut (beta-phenyl-GABA): a tranquilizer and nootropic drug.
Phenibut (beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid HCl) is a neuropsychotropic drug that was discovered and introduced into clinical practice in Russia in the 1960s. It has anxiolytic and nootropic (cognition enhancing) effects. It acts as a GABA-mimetic, primarily at GABA(B) and, to some extent, at GABA(A) receptors. It also stimulates dopamine receptors and antagonizes beta-phenethylamine (PEA), a putative endogenous anxiogenic. The psychopharmacological activity of phenibut is similar to that of baclofen, a p-Cl-derivative of phenibut. This article reviews the structure-activity relationship of phenibut and its derivatives. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the position of the phenyl ring, the role of the carboxyl group, and the activity of optical isomers. Comparison of phenibut with piracetam and diazepam reveals similarities and differences in their pharmacological and clinical effects. Phenibut is widely used in Russia to relieve tension, anxiety, and fear, to improve sleep in psychosomatic or neurotic patients; as well as a pre- or post-operative medication. It is also used in the therapy of disorders characterized by asthenia and depression, as well as in post-traumatic stress, stuttering and vestibular disorders.

The enhancement of human thermal resistance by the single use of bemitil and fenibut
The authors studied the effect of single intake of bymetil (0.5 g) and phenibut (0.25 g) on the thermal state, gas-energy exchange, blood oxygenation, working capacity, and the subjective status of man in intensive physical exertion in isolating means of individual protection. The drugs under study increased thermal resistance, promoted normal supply of the organism with oxygen, and provided the maintenance of man's high working capacity under conditions which lead to his overheating. The best protective effects was produced in this case with phenibut.

I'll add more soon...

phenibut which is found in the product, gabatropin by ergopharm is complete crap. don't even try comparing it to ghb/gbl. it's not addictive cuz it's crap for recreational use. i've used a whole bottle and even mega-dosed it which just put me to sleep. you'll have more fun taking a shot of your favorite hard liquor IMHO.

Thanks dude! AznRaver, you left me exactly the type of answer I was seeking. Most unfortunate that it is not fun, but there are several other promising compounds related to gaba to explore.

Heck, something that puts me to sleep reliably without dry-mouth and lets me pass my drug tests could still be useful to me.

most people that are posting about phenibut at body building boards have not done recreational drugs and are for the most part against illegal drugs except steriods(i know it's hypocritical). when they find something that is legal, they seem to get all crazy about that shit as they have never tried the "good" stuff.

anyhow, you don't wanna buy gabatropin for sleeping purposes cuz it's expensive. better to just save your money and toke before bed.

One thing i will try in the next couple weeks is to buy some pure phenibut powder and taking bumps of it as it was crap orally. might be worth a shot. i'll let you know how it goes.

It's not THAT expensive if you buy it by bulk... just don't get it through any of the RC vendors. That's when it IS expensive.

Nice to read about some of the experiences here though as I'm just about to cap some up and trying to get the dosage right.
