Phenobarbital or clonazepam?

I've been diagnosed with PTE post traumatic epilepisy from being hit by a car, and have the choice of phenobarb or clonazepam, perhaps diazepam and I want seconal, but am scared to push my luck. I have a script 4 90 30mg phenobarb with 5 refills, I have a bottle of phenobarb and 150mg lyrica x 3 a day and 90 xanax bars I refilled last week, but have only 56 left after some fun. Anyway I just took 150mg pheno to come off 150mg adderall and feel higher than the xanax gets me. I still have the new script w/refills, but was thinking of at least trying to get the 60mg ones as I can probably replace the script easily. I here bad things bout pheno, recreation wise compared 2 seconal, but unless its the lyrica talking as well I think this is chill, best come down drug I've found sans heroin. Feedback? Also my Benzo cravings are not at all present. If barbs suck so much why were they once so sought after?

The whole selling point of benzos when they were first marketed was their relative safety compared to barbiturates, so you do need to keep in mind that it's easier to overdose on phenobarb than on benzos.

Interesting that you've been offered a choice between two highly abusable drugs - did they try you on other anti-convulsants first?
 
I have an extremely sensitive trigger for rashes and hair loss a staple of modern meds for epilepisy, I went into anapholatic shock with lamictal and rashes from dilanton. Hair loss from kepra and depakote. Most narcotics are safe for me, and fun. Cocaine and ritalin are bad 4 me but speed and other phenethylamines I should avoid due to seizure risk are no problem 4 me.

Your prescribed Phenobarbital & Xanax and your offered Klonopin in replace of the Phenobarbital? Why would your doctor put you on two benzodiazepines? That really only happens when someone is prescribed one for anxiety and another for insomnia but doctors don't like to do that, at least from my experience with so many doctors. Only one doc ever did that for me. As for asking Seconal...good fu<king luck...hopefully he won't turn and look at you as a drug seeker for now on and give you nothing with abuse potential.
 
Yeah forget tuinal or seconal, but I get the xanax from a pyschiatrist and have a neurologist, 5 refills on phenobarb,a drug my father would take in the 60's, maybe I shouldn't push my luck? I feel like its a drug you might call antique, when first put on it in the hospital I asked "they still make this?" I felt lucky as its one of the few drugs I haven't tried.
 
I was told by an older doctor phenobarbital is like klonopin in the barb class as it last extremely long and seconal like antique xanax as its more addictive and fast short acting
 
Given your drug reaction history, the benzos would be a much safer bet - severe allergic reactions to barbiturates are a known risk.

^That's exactly what I was going to say. Phenobarbital IME, is very sedating, and I guess relaxing, but isn't really euphoric or all that pleasurable. People end up taking more and more trying to feel good, but end up either knocked out and somnolent, or in the ER. For day to day use, you'd be much better off in terms of alertness and ability to function on Clonazepam.

However, as someone mentioned above, Phenobarbital, or I would think any Barbiturate, has more potent anti-convulsant properties, which may then make it the more suitable candidate overall for your condition. Perhaps just try the one you want first, then if it's not cutting it, try switching over to the other.
 
i'd take clonazepam over phenobarbital. out of the barbiturates, phenobarbital just lacks what good barbs like seconal(which i highly doubt you'll get) or good benzos like temazepam(or clonazepam).

phenobarbital has all the negatives of barbs(clumbsiness, dangerous, feeling half asleep) with little positive barb effects(euphoria, feeling relaxed and content). clonazepam on the other hand is a good anti-anxiety, anticonvuslant, and overall relaxing benzo and is my 2nd favorite benzo.

however i think phenobarbital is a slightly better anticonvlusant, but likely not much more than clonazepam. i wouldn't ask for seconal, as it isn't even ment for use as an anticonvlusant(its a short acting barb used as a hypnotic) and is rarely perscribed today for anything.
 
Phenobarbital IS euphoric and pleasurable but at doses which can be dangerous and can get you to the ER.

i kindly disagree, as a barb's level of euphoria comes from a fast onset to the GABA-a receptors, and phenobarbital is just to slow acting to be euphoric like "good" downers(secobarbital, methaqualone, temazepam, phentobarbital, even alcohol).

although you did say at high doses, in which of course it would be better but with barbs thats something best avoided(the lethal dose of barbs is not much higher than the theraputic dose).

the one and only time i used phenobarbital,i took 300mg in a short space of time and felt neither relaxed,sedated nor euphoric.

total waste of time (imo/ime)
 
Alright, I'm gonna see my doctor, but ask 4 diazepam though, I prefer the feeling, but I took 150mg pheno and 2mg alprazolam and 150mg lyrica and feel serene however I feel the pheno takes awhile to work
