Phenobarbital and Codeine

Hey all, I have recently acquired 90mg of phenobarbital which I have been keen to try for some time, partially due to a curiosity to try barbiturates, but more so due to my awareness that phenobarbital induces the CYP2D6 enzyme which is responsible for metabolising codeine into morphine.

Basically I am curious to hear others experiences of this combo and what they thought of it, did you feel that the pheno increased the amount of morphine in your system compared to dosing codeine without a CYP inducer?

I am also curious how long prior to codeine you used the pheno, as I have been advised it can be quite slow to act (up to 3 hours to reach peak plasma levels) and I find CWE codeine kicks in within 15 minutes. I wouldn't want to drink my CWE before the pheno's enzyme inducing effects had peaked but obviously I don't want to let it pass me by either.

I am also curious what doses you took, particularly of the barb. As I understand it pheno is quite a weak barbiturate and 90mg is not a massive dose, particularly to someone who has a reasonable tolerance to numerous other GABAergic drugs.

This stuff isn't very common where I live at all, so I am hoping it is somewhere it is or atleast a few people that tried this combo despite phenobarbitals obscurity.

I look forward to hearing any input anyone has on this matter, I will report back how it goes after I try it, although I might wait a week or two to let my opiate tolerance drop from the heroin I got through the other week.

It's pretty great.

My suggestion would be to take 100 mg of phenobarbital. This will give a nice calming effect and enhance the codeine greatly by synergism and potentation at the same time. I never really got true enhancement off of anything less.

The cool thing is though, you can re-dose on the codeine and not worry about anymore phenobarbital at all.

Psychedelic jay when you say you can redose do you mean that phenobarbitals CYP2D6 inducing effects prevent codeine from inhibiting its own metabolism which is why it is generally considered to be ineffective to redose. Or do you simply mean that the barbiturates long duration mean you can take 2 doses of codeine before the effects wear off?

The dose of phenobarbital is not enough to do any significant induction of enzymes.

Anyway, yes to both of those. It won't completely stop you from leveling off, but it will heighten the ceiling dose, allowing you to take more...

^ Might I ask what dose of phenobarbital you feel would be adequate for significant enzyme induction? Also do you have any idea to what extent it induces CYP2D6? I made a thread in advanced drug discussion about it but have recieved no replies as yet. Any info you can give is greatly appreciated.

I am very interested in this as well b/c I always though phenobarbital weakens opiates like codeine perticularly. With codeine I assumed since they both inhibit the same enzyme they would compete for it and thus the codeine wouldn't be converted properly. On the same note i've taken some phenobarbital I had (about 400mg in two-three days) and it has a long half life so about three days later I had some codeine, small amount and it did work but i didnt take enough to say if it was more or less the same effect.

On a separte note I am interested if anyone can tell me with phenobarbital since the half life is so long does that mean its enzyme ihibiting effects and sedating effects would last as long as theres 'enough' in your system? (ex: I can take 200mg maybe three hundred..fucking three on my keyboard doesnt work lol if i dont drink, does that mean i will a) be sedated for as long as theres at least 80mg-100mg in my system and b) will the enzyme activity be the same a few days later

Also as most of us would agree phenobarbital is the shitiest of the barbs unless for alcohol or benzo withdrawl but I head of some good combos although the only thing I mixed with phenobarbital was alcohol and weed/hash. Although the way i did it I was already drunk before I took the phenobarb and then woke up really late in the afternoon, nothing special. Also another time I was returning to Canada from a visit back home where I had gotten a traditional beating and hardly had any opiates I was drinking a lot and was really agitated on the airplane back I took 100mg phenobarb along with some xanax, bromazepam and clonazepam...I went from getting drinks and being really agitated to asleep at least for 7-8hrs..when I woke up we already landed. I heard from someone that Soma (carisoprodol) with phenobarb is pretty nice but only had them on their own.

Thanks!
