Has anyone here ever used phenibut? What does it do to you? Is it kind of like benzodiazipines but "tamer?"
Is it of any use recreationally on its own? Would it potentiate the effects of etizolam or other benzos?

It feels like a weak bit of GBL to me personally. It takes forever to kick in, two to six hours, is highly addictive, has a really long half life, and there is no way you can drive or do anything like that even if you FEEL sober.

Phenibut almost gave me kidney failure, find something nicer to take

I always got really nauseous on it. Nothing like benzos, felt similar to a high dose of Gabapentin. Had really cool, lucid dreams but that was the only good thing about it IME.

i hate benzos but got some of this because cosmonauts take it and it was grouped in with nootropics. kinda silly, but yeah it was only 20$
in my experience it's decent - a bit of light headedness, relaxation, happiness. sometimes it makes me quite horny and makes orgasm a lot better.
i only take a gram at a time - never more than once or twice a week.

i didn't find it 'highly addictive' at all - but i'm not into benzos

phenibuts pretty cool, a couple grams and a 40 will get you turnt up but if you take too much it's dangerous, like your breathing slows way down.

not really comparable to benzos gets you more bent IMO instead of just relaxed.

and it's REALLY fucking addictive, like if you get a 100 gram jug and go through the whole thing without breaks you'll be shaky.

^^ he's right. I actually had to go to the hospital. My blood pressure got up to like 180/120, heart rate 150. When I ran out, that is.

As for whether its any good or not, it depends on what you are trying to use it for. You definitely don't want to become dependent in it. The withdrawl is like a long drawn out panic attack. It is useful for getting into a social mood and preventing anxiety. A dose of phenibut is like a few beers, but it lasts a long time. It's also not as "messy" as being drunk. A large dose, however, can leave a person vomiting with the spins and bad muscle twitches (myoclonus) for a very long time.

I had one friend who was an alcoholic and despite having had a liver transplant, she started drinking again. I introduced her to phenibut and she said it kept her cravings for alcohol at bay. She did OK on for awhile. Similar to how methadone can be used to treat opioid addictions, phenibut can be taken once a day to substitute for alcohol. It is not by any means a "safe alternative." In contrast to alcohol, it is not taxing on the liver but may be taxing on the kidneys (staying hydrated may lessen the load.) It could also be used as a sleep aid although it takes up to 4 hours for effects to manifest.

As for comparison to benzos, phenibut may have similar uses but the effects are closer to alcohol. I would not call it "tamer" than a benzo, but it's not as likely to cause blackouts and reckless behavior. It can potentiate other GABAergics, but may provide unpredictable results and can be a recipe for an overdose. Underestimating the addictiveness and just plain over doing it has caused people problems. On the flip side, some people can use it in a responsible manner as a medicine. Though for daily use it is a poor choice because tolerance develops rapidly leading to higher doses and addiction.

im not sure where people get the idea that phenibut is bad for the kidneys..?any sources for it as i havent noticed any problems..

phenibut is very useful for putting you into a more social, engaged mood..phenibut is very strange as it is a downer and upper mixed in one, similar to ghb..if you are sitting around on phenibut, you will feel very sedated, if you get up and moving, you will feel almost a manic like energy level without the jittery feeling of stims..the downsides of phenibut from what ive seen are brain fog is the worst, sometimes my mind just isnt clicking while on higher doses..plus addiction or dependence usually sets in..

ive never had problems driving on phenibut..phenibut is very beneficial in several areas imo.

I can't access the full articles. Phenibut was the only drug I was taking for a bit, and I very much noticed the effect it had on my kidneys, but my doses are what many would call unreasonable. If you are taking breaks and all that good shit it may not be worth worrying about. A friend caught me passed out in the hallway(I shouldn't have redosed lol) when I got to the hospital I needed 3 bags of saline before my kidneys started working again.

Tons of people have had bad experiences with this shit, look in the EADD thread.

Phenibut is VERY dehydrating, so I am not surprised people have had kidney issues with it. I have tried it, I wanted soemthing similar to gabapentin but found that its actually nothing like it. I dont suffer from anxiety, so can't say if it work but I can tell you that it gives you a good nights sleep. Thats pretty much all I got from it. I wouldn't bother taking it again. I took 500mg I think, cant remember. Slept about 12 hours after.
