Ph effects on certain drugs

Okay, something Phreex said in another thread reminded me of these thoughts.
Certain drugs are absorbed through your stomach more, and certain ones through the intestine's more, because of the ph levels in relation to the drugs being either acid or base.
So I thinking several things about this. Opiates I believe are weak acids, if they are absorbed mainly through the stomach. So if one were to mix it with a liquid that is a base and consume it, would that then prolong the effects. Not that many people would want to, but perhaps then you could take a higher dose, and have a longer high.
Conversly, then, with something that is a base, like amphetamines, they are absorbed through the intestines mostly. So if you were to take it with an acid liquid, say orange juice, then it should be absorbed faster in the stomache than normal.
Side question, is Dxm an acid or base? Because if you do the lemon extraction, it seems like it absorbs very quickly, so I would think it is a base.

correct me if im wrong..but aren't amphetamines acidic? Which is one of the reasons they fuck up your nose if you snort them.

Most drugs are weak bases, including all the opioids I know about. DXM is a weak base.
What you describe -- modifying the pH of the stomach to increase absorption -- theoretically works and has been documented for some drugs. I know with amphetamines, basifying the stomach (antacids are a great way to do this) will supposedly increase absorption according to the literature; but everyone I know who has tried this (including me) has noticed no change.
Changing your urinary pH is another option, as it will affect the rate the drug is removed from your bloodstream. This seems to be more effective than messing with your stomach pH. See a recent thread in E Discussion http://www.bluelight.ru/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=012613 for more info and reports.

Alkalinizing your urine or stomach will increase absorption/decrease elimination of amphetamines. But there is a trip report at erowid about adderall + sodium bicarbonate and it wasn't a highly reccomended combo. Greater plasma levels of amphetamines doesn't necessarily mean a better buzz. What is more likely is a worse comedown and more of the nuisance side effects of taking large amounts of amphet (nervousness, insomnia, etc.). So ph definitely has an effect for some drugs, but whether its good or bad...
