Doherty held after drugs arrest

Singer Pete Doherty will be questioned later after he was arrested on suspicion of administering noxious substances.

He was arrested in east London after a newspaper published pictures allegedly showing him taking drugs and injecting drugs into the arm of a female fan.

Police confirmed Doherty was arrested at 0800 BST on Saturday.

He is already on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs last week.

The singer is currently being held under Section 23 of the Offences Against the Person act.

He was arrested hours before he was due to play at an anti-racism concert in Trafalgar Square.

LATEST: Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY has lashed out at a British newspaper for publishing pictures of him purportedly injecting himself and an unconscious fan with heroin.

Doherty posted an error-strewn message on his BABYSHAMBLES website, blasting The Sun and alleging that the "staged" pictures were stolen from his flat.

British police have launched an investigation in response to the photos, which were published in Friday's (28APR06) edition of the newspaper.Doherty writes: "Just a note to note the unjust Sun's disturbing and ridiculously offensive 'story'. Firstly the photo's are stolen from my flat so... upsetting and personally catastrophic... how rude, secondly its a staged shot and what a f**king liberty to suggest I'd bang up a sleeping lass.

Darkness. Trafalgar Sq tomorrow don't forget... Babyshambles in good form at present. p x."

An unnamed friend of the singer sold the images to the newspaper, claiming they had been taken over the past five weeks.

Doherty was arrested for the sixth time in as many months last week (21APR06) on suspicion of possessing drugs, only hours after he was sentenced to an 18 month drug rehabilitation programme by a London judge. (SS/WN/SC)

Babyshambles suck, and so does The Sun. I don't know who to believe. To me, The Sun is not a newspaper, but a tabloid. Not that I'm defending that dirty smackhead....
 
my first impression upon looking at that picture is that he is removing the needle from somebody who has passed out.
 
the sun is legal and heroin is not. I find that more disgusting than licking snot off a ugly 500 stone, womans bush. I bewlieve he was getting blood for art or staged. Although i don't care.

Wow, I just clicked on that link fruitfly posted... This guy is one of the ugliest, most ate-up looking smackheads I've ever seen. DAMN!!! Someone give him an intervention...

i agree...it's like these things happen but rather than the media being questioned for prying (into) and destroying people's lives which is wrong - it gets brushed under the carpet because of the behaviour the celebrity has been caught doing.

in my opinion the girl was 'on the nod' (i think they say) and was asking for more to be injected into her. the dirty smackrats that doherty surrounds himself with take a photo and sell it to the sun for thousands to buy more smack with.

I've never even heard of this guy or his band. It's amazing that Kate Moss is/was his close girlfriend. I mean, she's actually going with someone I've never heard of. Wtf is wrong with you Kate? :\ Seriously though, for some reason I have never heard of this guy or his band. He comes across as one stupid fucker. Then again he fucks Kate Moss. So....hmm, I don't know what to think. Yeah I think she's hot.

Yeah, I have to admit... ever since hearing about this guy here in DITM, I've always wondered who the fuck this guy is, or Babyshambles for that matter. Are they not popular in the States? What kind of music is it?

The guy's a toolbag... just look at him.

His music's actually pretty good. I haven't listened to much of his work when he was in The Libertines but the Babyshambles album has several really great songs on it. He is pretty fucked up though. Needs to get off the crack and heroin, badly.

Yes Pete has done some drugs; he's been a silly boy ... so have I and as has probably all bluelighters... If he has any chance of controlling his habits he can fucking well do without any more stress fromt he british tabloids!

I was disgusted with him to a point where I actually gave up my Babyshambles ticket last year; since I've thought about it properly, as well as developing my rage against the media...

I think Pete is great, I love the Libertines (even if they are disbanded now).

But I think that, as above posters said, he will die at 27 (Jimi hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain all were druggies and musicians, and they all died at 27...)
 
Babyshambles and The Libertines are both really great. That whole shooting blood from a syringe onto a cameraman thing was a bit much though.
