One of mine is watching movies on regular network or cable TV. Firstly, they have a commercial every 10 or 15 minutes usually. That alone makes watching it totally unbearable for me. It turns a 2 hour movie into a 3.5 hour commercial-a-thon. Advertising itself is another pet peeve of mine, but that's another post; hell, that's another thread. I could go on a serious rant about how much I hate advertising.
Secondly, they edit the shit out of the movies, usually. A lot of times they'll blatantly cut whole scenes out of the movie to make more room for their god-damned commercials. But what's even worse is their editing for "content." I guess I can do without the nudity and profanity, although I'd rather be able to watch the movie as intended. The worst thing they can do though, is rather than simply dropping out the audio when people use profanity, they try to edit in replacement dialog. "Go fuck yourself" becomes "Go love yourself," and "you fucking cocksuckers!!" becomes "you trucking pot-lickers!!" It sounds retarded, and is totally pointless. Just drop out the audio, rather than make the characters sound like they periodically lapse into gibbering retardation.
I know some people will probably say..."Well, the whole reason that you're able to watch the movie is because they can put commercials in, so you shouldn't be upset at that! What, do you hate capitalism, blah, blah, blah. If you don't like it, don't watch it!"
As to the fact that the only reason the film is on in the first place is to get people to watch the ads, all I can say is that while I understand the need for advertisement on TV, they don't need to do it as often as they do. Hell, I'd rather be able to watch 45 mins of the film, then be subjected to 20 min of commercials rather than have 5 mins of commercials for every 10 minutes of the film. It totally screws up the pace of the film, and makes it less of a draw. At least that's true for me. I can't understand why anyone would want to watch a movie under those conditions.
That brings me to the second issue. In fact, I do turn off the TV when they do that sort of thing. I almost never watch movies that are on regular TV and have commercial interruptions. But sometimes I'm subjected to it because people who I'm with (friends, family) want to watch the movie despite the commercials, and I'm stuck watching it unless I want to leave their company. Sometimes, it will even be a good movie, and I'll end up watching it for a while before the commercials and the editing piss me off enough for me to give up on it. I rarely make it through a whole movie on TV.
