I hate being told to "smile!" or "cheer up!" when I'm just feeling perfectly fine. It would be one thing if I was crying or something, but when I'm just normal I find it extremely agitating. A person doesn't have to be walking around with a massive cheesy grin on their face all the time to be doin okay.

ditto i find this to be extremely insulting and frustrating. when someone tells me i should smile more often, i will frown more often. it's not like my natural expression is even a frown. it's just not a goofy grin. i hate being told to smile by random strangers:X what NERVE!!!!!

oh, and business catchphrases: "it is what it is" "core/key strengths" "going forward"

QFT.

All the roads around me have no shoulders and tons of blind curves and rises, but that doesn't stop people from riding bikes/jogging/walking their dogs on them and causing constant heart-stopping brake-squealing near-distasterous situations. GET OFF THE FUCKING ROAD! It's not like a fucking country lane where once in a while a wheezing farm truck will pass at 10 mph. These are heavily traveled roads where traffic is constant at most hours. All its going to take is the right combination of circumstances and even if everyone is going the speed limit and driving as safely as possible its going to cause an accident where everyone dies.

One of which is when people use Shakespeare's "To be or not to be? that is the question" to express their indecision. For example: "The red dress: to buy or not to buy? That is that question. UGH

LOL! Does this happen a lot? I can't think of one time anyone said that around me but I find the mental picture of people saying it around you and you just having this annoyed look on your face very funny. :)

yes exactly it gets me mad just thinking about how careless people can be with their bike riding. Some roads just ARE NOT MADE FOR THAT KIND OF THING.

GRRRR is this thread PISSING anybody else off :X :X

hehehe jk (sorta 8o)

*skipping pens
*people who don't say "please" and "thank you"
*atrocious grammar and typographical errors...really, does it have to be spelled "avacado" or " consistant" ;)
*voice-over narration in movie trailers ;) that voice and tone (y'all know what I'm talking about) makes me cringe.
*the word "cool".
Cool is one of those words which are used so frequently they have ceased to mean anything. I am one of the guilty who have contributed to its devaluation. I use the word as an all-purpose adjecive, out of laziness, or in a craven attempt to ward off an uncomfortable silence. :p

LA is so spread out and riding in LA is very dangerous. I'd be scared too. It's almost impossible to get around without a car in that city. Now I understand why you have driving-related pet-peeves. You might should come up here to Davis. It's the bike capital of the world. More bikes per capita than any other city. A lot of cyclists pull their children around in bike trailers. It's safe enough here for that. Very liberating as well.

Heh, who in their right mind would move from LA to Davis? =D

I'm not a fan of the term "You're so lucky" Only when its used for something I actually worked hard for and had nothing to do with luck....

Bicyclists are totally within their rights to use public roadways, excepting freeways and highways, of course. Get used to it because you're only going to see more and more bikes out there.

Which brings me to my peeve of entitled drivers thinking only automobiles are allowed on the road. :p

of course they have a right to use the road. pennywise put it properly though, even within very safe speeds and a cautious driver (and biker) there are some roads that are just disasters waiting to happen. In fact, this is not theoretical, but happens unfortunately quite routinely (a biker is killed or a biker causes a car driver to drive off the road and they are killed). :\

two more:

- when people say less when they should have said fewer

- when people say there's when they should have said there are...

WHATEVER! Unless its a freeway/highway/expressway that has a sign that expressly says no bicycles/pedestrians then a bike is a legitamate form of transportation and you have to slow down and yeild to them, just like you would yeild to a slow moving farm vehicle or a person walking. You don't own the road just cause your in a car.. Bikes are a much more economical form of transportation especially with gas running out and costing $4+ a gallon now. If its warm enougth out and you can manage to pedal as far as your going you should ride a bike, its good for your health and good for the planet.

As far as "everyone dieing" yeah usually in 99% of bicycle vs. car accidents its the cyclist that dies..

People in cars are supposed to yeaild to people on bikes and people walking, if you come up on a cyclist and can't stop in time your either not paying close enougth attention or just going too fast. Also most responsible cyclists will get up on the curb or on the shoulder to get out of cars way.

Its complelty legal and legitimate for cyclists to be on the road unless theres signs saying its prohibited. Its auctually illegal for cyclists to ride on the sidewalk in most places.. not that cops are going to arrest a 13 y/o kid or something going 5 mph on the sidewalk but a grownup going fast on a 10 speed or mt bike sometimes they will give a ticket.. so responsible people will ride in the street.

"when you pay bike tax, then you have a right to bitch."

Whatever I paid enougth taxes @ up to $4 a gallon when I drove a car.. I can get almost anywhere with my bike and the ability to take my bike on the train.

Finder is right, it was on the news the other day that more people than ever are turning to bikes to get around, even office workers to get to work and they have ammenities to change into work clothes at more and more offices and workplaces.

I notice an increase in bikes around town, on the train and in the city riding around downtown Chicago. Thats about as nutty of drivers as you can get but theres people riding all over the place. they have bike lanes in some places but not all.. they do need more. Even tho we still havr the right to ride anywhere!!!

Word up Finder..

Heey Gaian Planes I thought you were a hippie? whats with all the hating on biking hippies?? LOL

People who chew ice. IT'S THERE TO COOL DOWN YOUR BEVERAGE, NOT FOR YOU TO CRUNCH SO LOUD THAT THE WHOLE WORLD CAN HEAR :X

On that note, loud eaters in general are a huge pet peeve. Chew with your mouth closed damnit.

Also, I work in a yoga studio and it really irks me when people come in and say, "I'm not going to be pressured to believe in any, like, eastern religious type stuff, am I?"

**facepalm**

I tell them no, but I really just want to tell them that if they're that afraid of having their faith challenged then maybe they should just go do some jump rope in their church.

/end rant.

ok I'm not hating you just don't understand and am too tired to flesh out my view on this. but here's a rough sketch:

YES, they have the RIGHT to ride their bike on roads. Of course, I'm not arguing against that bro. They have that right just like you have the right to walk with swaztikas tattooed onto your forehead into hell's kitchen or cabreeni greens (these are famous ghettos iirc). You might not like the consequences though just like the bike riders might not like the consequences (them or me dead).

I have the right to climb sketchy climbing routes, jump from airplanes, BASE jump off cliffs, downhill mountain bike (my favorite things i've done in my life btw :D), but it does not mean that I am not being FOOLISH with my life (through somebody's eyes).

Just because somebody has the RIGHT to do something does not mean they SHOULD do it.
