I can't remember whether or not I've mentioned any of these before (I probably have) but it's something I've mentioned a lot lately so I forget where this has been said in particular.
People who have bad grammar irk me to no end. English grammar is taught in elementary school and it's not that difficult to pick up if it's your first language. This is the reason it stupefies me when grown adults can't master something taught in 3rd grade. I didn't even pay attention and I picked it up
A few things that grind on me in particular:
- people who can't tell the difference between "you're" and "your"
- people who can't tell the difference between "their," "there," and "they're"
- people who use the word "hoe" instead of "ho" when describing a loose woman (a "hoe" is a garden tool, people!)
- people who use "ya'll" instead of "y'all" (my spell check even notices this; you + all = y'all)
- people who use "it's" when they are trying to describe something in a possessive form
Here's a lesson in the above:
"She called its owner to report the dog found."
In the above sentence the word "its" does NOT use an apostrophe. True, it seems like it should, but it doesn't. Look it up if you must.
Edit: The "hoe" part is technically regarding spelling but I threw it in there anyway =)
