Grammer Nazi Lesson no. 201:

English can be complicated, because there's an exception to every rule.
Ex.: Keep in mind that the word your will never be followed by the words the, a or an.

Alzo,

"you’re" signifies the omission of the letter “a.” If the sentence does not make sense, you will know to use "your."

Tut, Tut! Sieg Heil!! ;)

the latest iteration due to the earthquake in japan. their fear-mongering regarding tsunamis on the western US coast is ignorant at best.

True that.
They had people all worried and shit about the beach communities going underwater here and the water level only changed by about 3 ft.. :|

^ lol my wife only got about two hours of sleep because we live about 6 miles from the coast in Southern California.

We actually had some significant damage to our harbors here in mid-cal... I think damage totaled something like $12.5m :\

But yea, they were making it sound like entire communities would be wiped out. 8)

We got calls at midnight, 4am and 6am to warn us, as we live right on the beach in Alaska. I think our tide may have come up an extra 6 inches.....

Haha really.

I can't remember whether or not I've mentioned any of these before (I probably have) but it's something I've mentioned a lot lately so I forget where this has been said in particular.

People who have bad grammar irk me to no end. English grammar is taught in elementary school and it's not that difficult to pick up if it's your first language. This is the reason it stupefies me when grown adults can't master something taught in 3rd grade. I didn't even pay attention and I picked it up :P

A few things that grind on me in particular:

- people who can't tell the difference between "you're" and "your"
- people who can't tell the difference between "their," "there," and "they're"
- people who use the word "hoe" instead of "ho" when describing a loose woman (a "hoe" is a garden tool, people!)
- people who use "ya'll" instead of "y'all" (my spell check even notices this; you + all = y'all)
- people who use "it's" when they are trying to describe something in a possessive form

Here's a lesson in the above:
"She called its owner to report the dog found."
In the above sentence the word "its" does NOT use an apostrophe. True, it seems like it should, but it doesn't. Look it up if you must.

Edit: The "hoe" part is technically regarding spelling but I threw it in there anyway =)
