I must be on my 100th avocado seed that is not not growing I am getting pissed of with it and think all the avocados I am eating must be man made with dud seeds put in for effect. aaarrrrgggghhhhhhh

My pet peeve is people who eat loud as fuck and dont close their moth and shit.... so fucking nasty. Another one is bad drivers(my area is full of idiots). Not being able to sleep is up there too lol

are you sure it was a book? are you sure it wasn't... nothing? i thought you taught English for a living, so i think you must be joking. there's never any need for multiples of those; doing so makes you look uneducated and in possession of a limited vocabulary.

d = 3 / (2^n) summed from n = 1 to n = infinity.

math isn't your strong point either. because the denominator in your formula is a function of 'n', the dramatic effect actually decreases as 'n' increases...

I know that some hard seeds require you to knick them (make a small incision) at the right spot, to allow for germination... Usually these seeds have this design because they come from places where monsoons and tropical rainstorms will create streams that transport the seeds, and deposit them in a soil somewhere, and until they do so, the seeds get pretty beaten up along the way, and get to the point where they are incised and germination takes place due to the now possible hydration of the seeds internal parts... not that I know this to be the case for Avocado seeds, but Baby Woodrose for example, you wanna knick those to make the plants grow, otherwise, the hard shell keeps all water out and prevents germination... so not a pet peeve solved, but maybe a hint along the way?

I had the same problem trying to start a mango tree and a grapefruit tree a while back... Although I will never get sick of either fruits... Love them both too much! Likewise for avocados!

So also a pet peeve of mine... seeds that are a bitch to get to germinate.

the word "mathematics" is quite clearly based on the Greek plural τα μαθηματικά (ta mathēmatiká), used by Aristotle, and meaning roughly "all things mathematical". surely everybody knows that...? so my pet peeve is people referring to it in the singular, especially if they weren't brought up to do so.

evidently, spelling isn't your strong point, alasdair. which is ironic, the varying definition of which is yet another pet peeve, and almost as annoying as rain on your wedding day.

I know you're just having some fun with me. It's all good. Just in case there is any confusion though, of course I never teach my students to use more than one exclamation point or question mark, nor do I encourage them to use sentence fragments, enormous font, angry smileys, or strings of curse words. I employ those tactics in my pet peeves posts for comedic effect, not as an intended demonstration of proper grammar.

Is that a fact? Well, let's see. I do teach math, and I am guessing you don't, because you are dead wrong on this one. Anyone who knows anything about math would know that the summation I posted is one of the most famous infinite series and that it sums to 3 as n increases to infinity; and the series does in fact increase with each term as n increases.

(The series usually does not have a 3 in the numerator, but all that does it multiple the entire series by 3; so without the 3, the series would sum to 1. The 3 in the numerator simply makes the series sum to 3 instead of 1. Also, had I summed the series from zero to infinity instead of from 1 to infinity, the series would converge to 2 (not factoring in the numerator) and would sum to 2*Numerator if there is something other than 1 in the numerator.)

You guys should stop trying to catch me on math or English errors. Why not recognize a losing effort and focus your energy on other endeavors?

I am baffled that you failed to understand this infinite series. How would you not realize that ADDING positive numbers to one another INCREASES the sum? 3 / 2^n is positive for all values of n. I really think you should excuse yourself from future math discussions.
