I didn't start drugs til I was 17 and through college I was pretty ignorant and just believed all the urban legend-style drug myths from drug users instead of DARE. I found Erowid towards the end of college and then joined Bluelight after college and got a LOT more educated. And then became a huge drug nerd about psychedelics in particular. I've tried some 50 or 60 psychedelics, I currently have amber vials with 42 of them for my collection. =D
 
LOL yeah. See I like to go with traditional drugs mostly. I don't stray too far away from the ones that people know well. LOL. For psychedelics I have only done LSD, PCP, DMT, MDMA, shrooms, mescaline, ketamine, and salvia. So, nothing close to 50 to 60, let alone 42 vial collection! LOL! That is pretty impressive! ? I likely wouldn't even be able to catch up. LOL! Yet, I would be impressed if I could even remember facts about 50-60 different psychedelics names hahahahaha!
 
I'm what I have started calling a drug nerd. I've spent so much time researching and discussing them (mostly on here). It's like a hobby. I mean I started researching this stuff when I was like 20 so it's been 16 years of being kind of obsessed. =D

I haven't done straight PCP though and I'd like to try it, if I had the powder and could properly measure it and stuff.

Here I have to deny this a bit. I know what you mean. But e.g. for me it just needs something very roughly in the form and size, and my brain creates out of this perfect high resolution objects of "imagined" nature. E.g. high detailed dragons, etc. with which also interaction is possible and which also move, although they are not walking around, as there's still this rough connection to the actual real object in the room.

So from my POV, it needs a real object onto which the brain can project something onto. So you don't see anything, where there's nothing. But the look of the real object and the imagined projected object can be very different.
 
I noticed in literature and movies (for example, Dumbo!) that back in the day (even @WAY before psychedelics were a known thing in our culture), there was this idea that people would hallucinate when they drank. I wonder what's up with that, because that's never happened to me, but I wish it would! However, no one seems to suggest that anymore. But now we have drugs sometimes referred to as hallucinogens.
 
In the UK many years ago (like 1960-70s) there commonly used to be talk of seeing pink elephants when in the Delerium Tremens (DTs) stages of alcohol use/withdrawal. I think it was not uncommon to truly hallucinate after very heavy alcohol use. It doesn't get talked about much nowadays as the narrative has changed dramatically from 'heavy drinking is cool' to a more HR focused message of 'be careful 'cause you'll end up in serious shit if you drink too heavily'.

Maybe alcohol-precipitated hallucinations were the only type of hallucination experienced by the ordinary person, until acid hit the streets in the 60's and the anti-LSD rhetoric ramped up big time.

Of course as a young man who had been fascinated by my dreams all my life I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this stuff ?
 
I've perdsonally never hallucinated from alcohol and I have drank to the point of blacking out many, many times in my life. However if alcohol was the only intoxicant people had experience with... I don't know. The whole thing is strange to me. Maybe since I have been into psychedelics since just a year after I started drinking, I just don't even consider any perceptual alteration from alcohol to be a hallucination. But I mean, I've never seen something that wasn't there on alcohol. MDA in high doses... yeah, for sure. Even normal psychedelics just make me see what IS there differently, they don't make me see something that's not there.

However, I think alcohol withdrawal could account for it because with that you certainly hallucinate. So maybe that's where the idea came from.
 
^The hallucinations are not from the consumption of alcohol, but from the body's reaction to abrupt cessation of drinking - it is a withdrawal state that can be very frightening. After a week long bout of heavy daily drinking on holiday I stopped on returning home. By that night every time I closed my eyes I could see a phantasmagoric group of people living their own lives as I watched on. I'd hate to see how bad things were had I drank for a month!
 
Yup - you're both right. My lack of knowledge of alcohol use. It's definitely the withdrawal effects. And to think I come from the country that makes Whisky :confused:. You'd think I would know!
 
For some reason I cant even imagine, where I live (south america) there are some people who think acid decalcifies your bones. No idea where that came from. I once shared some tabs with a girl I know and she started asking me how often it was okay for her to take it, since she didnt want to loose her calciu. I told her how that was bulshit and she proceeded to tell me about that one time she tripped with a friend who broke her ankle while they were walking around tripping so it must be true!!!

Another one I always hear is since it alters you more than cannabis or alcohol, it must be more damaging to the bodie. I mean, its ultra potent, but I dont think a hundred micrograms of LSD is more damaging to your organs than binge drinking. And thousands of people get away with doing that every weekend for months on end during college without much consequences so...
 
In actuality LSD is one of if not the least damaging recreational drugs there is to the body! There is speculation that chronic use could cause heart valve problems through 5-HT1b agonism but using it from time to time is about as close to harmless (to the body) as it gets. Binge drinking, on the other hand... awful for all of your internal organs and your brain. Also college kids die around the world every year from going a little too hard with binge drinking and ODing.

I've never heard the calcium depletion one... I was always told by basically everyone that it gets stored in your spine forever and when you crack your back you can start to trip again. Also that it changes your DNA.

it's ironic that the one powerful recreational drug that's allowed in most places (alcohol) is among the most destructive and poisonous drugs. Yet many people fully accept its use and even its abuse, yet if you're doing psychedelics there must be something seriously wrong with you.

Can you believe I actually tried the whole banana peel thing as an ignorant youngster? The smoke tasted of banana, and that's pretty much it.

As for the anarchists cookbook, I'm sure I still have a copy on floppy somewhere...?

I did that too. I had the Anarchist cookbook a long time ago. It is long lost. I remember the odor of those banana skins coming out of the oven. I think the rumor was heads in the late 60's wanted to prank the public and gov to see if they would ban banana's. I also tried the crushed aspirin smoke with coca cola. Then there was smoking peanut skins. Nothing worked except weed. lol

I think you all have the silly rumors posted. And I do find it interesting that the "pink elephant" hallucinations stand the test of time. Actually I like a term Leary had said, it is a de hallucinogen. :D It makes people who have not taken it insane.
 
Ugh was listening to JRE and Michael Pollan said that LSD was cut with speed in the 70s lol...

It's possible - LSD wasn't all blotter back then like it is now. From what I've heard people were taking 'acid' in gels, gelcaps, pressed pills, all different formats.

OTOH it sounds fake BS. In highschool in the 90s it was always on blotter and microdots, people would say one batch or another was "speedy" or cut with strychnine, which doesn't make much sense considering the size of the blotter or microdot, couldn't really hold anything but LSD, the only drug potent enough at that time.
