Permanent opiate tolerance?

Exactly. It's like how you can deal with being tired, angry, depressed or stoned all the time, you just get used to the whole mindset\situation, so it doesn't affect you as much, even though the chemicals are still doing the same thing in your brain as they used to.

Tolerance certainly could be psychological for a formerly dependent user. One gets accustomed to stronger highs after being addicted/dependent. But, tolerance also rises much faster after you've gone through addiction. I don't think that's psychological at all.

After a few months of daily use of 240mg of oxycodone, I took a break from all opioids for 8 months. When I relapsed, I found that I needed 80mg snorted to get the high I desired. (plugged, I would be happy with 40mg) However, within a week, I was up to 160mg. An 80 would hardly do anything. So I agree that after 8 months, my baseline tolerance probably went down 50%. However, my psychological tolerance and expectation of the high went down very little. When I used to get high for 4 hours, now I am only high for an hour. I believe that once you go through an addiction, your mental tolerance can never go down completely. Oxy completely lost its magic after my addiction. Maybe if I am clean for a few years things might change, but I have no personal experience to comment on that.

So is the verdict that he's probably selling me counterfeit meds?

I doubt it. Back in the day when I used to do Dilaudid and Oxy's my tolerance went up like crazy. I noticed that it did not go up nearly as fast using H as it did with those 2, especially the Dillies. I think your tolerance to those just goes up so fast, it is unbelieveable. I was up to using 32 mgs of Dilaudid IV every few hours after about a year of using them. I am not sure how long or how often you have been using them, but if you are getting high, just not as high as you used to, I just think your tolerance is going up REAL fast. It's a bitch, ain't it?

Well said. It's ridiculous how long it takes your tolerance to lower after going through a severe dependence/addiction. Also, the psychological tolerance plays a bigger factor than most realize, imo. That's why if you're used to strong opiates it's difficult to successfully use weak ones.

He just gave me 6 8mg dilaudid + 30 0.25mg Halcion for free, so I'm thinking he's a shady guy who just doesn't want trouble.

And I just took 3mg of Halcion 45 min. ago and feel nothing. Granted I've ate 20mg or so of rohypnol each day for the past 2 days, but I should still feel something.

I don't think I'm going back to this dealer.

Well, you could start by at least jumping on rxlist to see what you actually have...

No, it'd been three years since I used Percocet, and I never used over 30mg to get nodded. It's been two years since I used 40-45mg of vicodin to get nodded.

And then out of nowhere it takes me 120-160mg oxycontin or 24-32mg dilaudid to get high.

Something's fishy.

I think you just crave a stronger high after doing dope for a while. The first time I shot cocaine, I thought "whoa!" and thought I was super high. A month later I got my first bell ringer and realized I wasn't getting high at all.

It's all relative. When you were first using, opiate high was so novel and different that just a little bit in your system felt so extreme and enjoyable. Now that you know what it's like, you are able to handle it.

It's not so much a physical tolerance, but just that you know what you're doing. Like riding the same roller coaster over and over, it's the same thing, but now you are used to it.

I don't think that's it, because even though oxycodone is stimulating, I still used to always nod off of it, in as low of doses as 30mg.

Now I'm snorting 120-160mg and just feeling warm and fuzzy with no nod.

And at $30 per 40mg pill, I can't afford this shit.

The Dilaudid is a bit cheaper, 3 pills at $18 a piece, but that's still $54, which is way too much for a high IMO.
