Permanent opiate tolerance?

Can opiate tolerance be permanent, or am I just getting seeds that are washed (same brand I used to use, but methods change), and weak/expired meds?

It takes me 120mg oxycontin or 24mg dilaudid to get high (both from the same dealer, I'm thinking he's selling expired meds he gets for cheap), while I get a comparable to better high off of $7.50 worth of Kratom (which might have a slightly different mechanism of action).

Opiates can be many, many years past their expiration date and still be just as potent.

Its not fair to compare kratom to pharmaceuticals simply because one batch of kratom will not be as potent (could be more or less) than the last, where as pharms are tested for consistant potency. Also, expiration dates dont mean anything when it comes to the potency, BUT DO NOT tell your guy that if he is selling them for less because he thinks they are weaker.

Saying that, it would be much much easier for anyone to give you a better answer if you could provide more details about your usage. How often do you use, and what do you use? How long? That would be a good start.

Tolerance could stick around for a long time(months), and once you've been seriously dependent/addicted it will rise much quicker than before and you will most likely never go back to your pre-dependence baseline.

Like IF said, you have to provide more details...

Your tolerence will never be the same as when you first popped your opiate cherry and it will take a while to get your tolerence down to about half of your current tolerence.

And I've noticed that there is a lot more stores and companies starting to wash their seeds. It's starting to become rare to find unwashed poppy seeds in stores now. As for the pills it's most likely all in your head and your tolerence is higher then you think.

The answer to this riddle is in the news section, it has nothing to do with washing seeds. Theres also some dirt poor rural farmers probably scrambling for a new crop.

Opiate tolerance lasts a long time. I went 6 months cold turkey and noticed less than a 20% decline in my tolerance.

I think its probably bad seeds, I was craving opiates today so I did 200 grams of poppy seeds and 16mg of codeine ( two of the otc 8mg in canada) for a boost and didn't feel much and then did another 200 grams and 32mg of codeine and still didn't feel anything. Yet I'm someone who gets ridiculously high from 30mg of morphine or 40mg of oxy after doing it everyday for two weeks.

About 3 years ago, I did dihydrocodeine every third day, sometimes combined with vicodin. Did vicodin/percocet alone before that on 3-4 occasions.

The next year, in the spring, I went through around 25 vicodin, never more than every 3rd day.

Fast-forward to the present, when I started using oxycontin/dilaudid a few months ago, and found I needed 120mg+ oxy or 24mg dilaudid.

Part of it is mental tolerance, I.E. you already know what to expect, and want it, so it doesn't give that same whole-new-world experience of your first time, and you need more to achieve the same effect. The same pretty much goes for cannabis.

I'm also reasonably certain from personal experience that tolerance to the euphoric effects of opioids can develop with a single euphoric dose and persist for up to 72 hours.

Yeah, I have found that the tolerance stays with you for a LONG time. I can't give you an exact time frame, but after about a year of abstinence my tolerance didn't go down a bit. It still took just about the same amount as when I quit, maybe a little bit less but after one or two uses it's right back to where I was.

One interesting thing that I learned lately is that your tolerance has something to do with how high you raise your dose ... for instance, while you move from 3 to 4 to 5 pills, then maybe take 10, you don't necessarily need to up it that much to still catch a buzz and your body is going to get used to that higher amount even if you only did it a few times. This screws up your tolerance big time. And like someone else said, it will likely never return to baseline like when you first started.

But still, going from 30mg oxy to 120mg oxy? I think they're counterfeit, although you raise good points.

Blase I'm not sure what area you are in, but in New England there was a news story about fake oxycodone that hit the streets maybe a month or two ago. Enough of it that there had to be a news story, so I'm guessing some people got hospitalized from them. It is possible you got fake oxys. I'm not sure what size they were but I think they were 30's.

I don't know how it's possible that some people are having no drop in tolerance after a year. That is almost impossible. If your receptors weren't becoming re-accustomed to not having opiates, then you would have been in withdrawal for a year.

I've abused pretty much every opiate. Take methadone for example. I was doing around 30-40mg a day for a few months. It took like 70mg oxy for me to feel anything. I quit cold turkey for 2 or 3 months, and 15mg oxy got me high again.

He acted outraged that I'd accuse him of selling false meds, but he's willing to give me more when I complained and asked him if I should ask any of his other clients about the strength of their drugs, so I don't know what to think.

I know it has nothing to do with it being oxy and not percocet, or with snorting it instead of popping it. But I did 30mg of Percocet the other day, and it got me where 120-160mg of his OxyContin got me. It also takes me 24mg or so of his Dilaudid to get me high, and a normal amount for a nontolerant user is 8mg.

So who knows?

^ I think there's your answer: if 30mg Percocet is getting you where 120-160mg of Oxy is, your guy is selling you weak/fake meds. It doesn't make sense for percs to be stronger than oxies; it's chemically impossible at these doses.

Even though he told you to contact other customers to see if they're satisfied with the strength of their stuff, he may have only been bluffing. He probably gambled on the hope that you wouldn't take him up on it...

Btw, was the Percocet from the fake-Oxy guy or a different source? If it's from someone else, I say go through them from now on. That's what I would do, anyway. Cheers.

I have mixed feelings about permanent tolerance. I don't think it exists the way some people think it does, but I think that once you become accustomed to a class of drugs like opiates, your baseline tolerance can change slightly for psychological reasons mainly. With a drug like oxy, after using for a long time and then quitting, your baseline tolerance might go from somewhere around 15mg up to 30mg, but it shouldn't be much more extreme than that.
