perceptions of exclusiveness in academic psychedelic research

After reading the entire thread and having already thought about this issue for a while, I'm for the idea people who want to undertake the experience can do so with a more experienced guide, and legally, however not in a cold clinical setting at all, more a living room kind of thing.
At the same time I do understand the appeal for people to just do their own thing wherever they wish to, whilst feeling unsure with how to approach caution with first timers not really knowing what they may be in for.
I feel quite unsure as to whether this kind of experience should or should not be available to young people in stages of development as it currently is with the black market - I don't know if it brings them
either problems or solutions. I think it might be an easier thing to undertake at middle age for instance, however that is quite an uncommon time for people to become interested in this, given the higher levels of experimentation that essentially is youth.
PS any tips for trading foreign exchange?!

SKL is referring to his attending the upcoming conferance in NYC yes?

If only I had the money to go... I may perhaps. I'm on the Island so transport won't be difficult. But the tickets are so expensive!

Interesting subject. I've spent hours listening to conferances and lectures on tape; Ott, Mckenna, Schultes, Shulgins, etc. and always envision myself in a well tailored 3 piece suit duckbill cap and tortoise shell glasses. On top of of my one inch diameter stretched lobes with organic burrwood jewelry I think I'd fit in...

Oh to dream a little dream...

I was interested in going to ICPR this weekend, to finally see what the dutch psychedelic community is made out of. I'm a bit of a loner in both my philosophical and scientific interest in psychedelics around these parts, my friends just want to see shiny stuff. And there are some interesting talks to boot. Doesn't seem like it's receptor this, receptor that.

But damn those prices indeed!

Why did dmtlunatic get banned? I don't think that's fair unless I'm missing something.

If someone was banned, usually you're missing something unless you're a moderator.

I don't know dmtlunatic for what its worth. Just making a statement.

Yes I am quite disappointed about the ex-bluelighter status of DMT Luna
Who did that, what for ?
Everyone is entitled to give opinions and thoughts regardless of whatever another thinks of them, within some reason
Yeah that post was quite out of tone for R&ME, he's often more thoughtful, I have seen ...

I personally dunno why that user was banned. People aren't banned for saying weird or crazy things here, obviously. typically the only things that result in ex-bluelighter status are spam & duplicate accounts though.

Let's get this thread back on topic. Questions like that should be via pm with a mod.

As for the different factions within psychedelic academics, I suppose sometimes a multidisciplinary approach is preferable, but certainly not always. I think it may be useful to segregate the biological & clinical research from the sociological, anthropological, subjective experiential & sometimes "new agey" stuff just for the sake of focus. I could see maybe having one conference every couple years that combines them all, but otherwise it seems a bit scattered & nebulous to always have the different groups under one (conference) roof
