I take Percocet regularly for intense chronic pain, but due to circumstances beyond my control my prescription wasn't renewed for a while and I went about a week and a half on 1/2 doses trying to stretch it out. While doing that, I essentially tried to drug myself into sleep with large doses of diphenhydramine (Unisom and Benadryl), which worked with moderate success at first.
Now that I'm back on my full dose of oxy I don't need the sleeping pills any longer, so I stopped taking them. This brings me to my question, however. I was experiencing withdrawal-like symptoms yesterday, which puzzled me as I had already taken my regular dose of oxycodone. On a hunch (and because why the hell not and I was miserable), I took a couple of unisom. Within the hour my wd symptoms had abated AND I had a nice, sleepy buzz going on which was totally unexpected but very much welcome. (I rarely get a euphoric feeling from any med.)
Doing some research online led me to conclude that no, diphenhydramine does not leave you with withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it, but I wonder if the mix of oxy and dh together is something that my body got used to and I need to taper off gradually? Thoughts? Experiences? Like, am I crazy or was/am I legitimately going through withdrawals from this?
