pepto bismol 20mg with atenolol 25mgs safe?

I am wondering if this is a safe combination? I know everyone's different but I can't exactly monitor my blood pressure. I have pretty bad IBS and wondering if this is safe, as I'm reading on certain interactions on sites it's not, and others no interactions?

From the reading I have done, it sounds like the interaction is not generally severe but that you may benefit less from atenolol. Although in an individual with IBS the pros, may out weight the cons. Give your pharmacy a call and get their opinion, and then bring it up at your next doctors appt. If you are combining the two now, just keep an eye as to the impact it's having on your bp.

Bismuth subsalicylate blocks the production of chemicals known as prostaglandins. Certain types of prostaglandins cause the muscles inside of blood vessels to relax (also referred to as "vasodilation") and promote the elimination of sodium and water by the kidneys, both of which lead to a decrease in blood pressure. Although it does not seem to directly alter the blood pressure-lowering ability of atenolol, bismuth subsalicylate may lessen the overall benefit of using atenolol because of its effect on the prostaglandins. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure if bismuth subsalicylate and atenolol are taken together on a regular basis. If you are experiencing problems, your doctor may consider adjusting the dose of bismuth subsalicylate. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.
