It could be argued that the owner of the hair was not involved in Manufacture of the drug and was simply near a person who subsequently procceded to press pills
Or perhaps it was from the drug producer's dog, also out in the ol' rusty shed at the time, and having a good ol' scratch in the dirt next to the ol' clanging pill press 8(
Everything about such a find is pure speculation. There's no way I could see the police doing a hair inspection and DNA profiling even if it was human. Too much cost for the odds IMO, and as mentioned they already have a fat charge or 2.
Just remember that drugs/ pills are often made in such environments. Why?
A) ETHICS
Because many producers couldn't give a fuck about the wellbeing of users. Simple. Money alone is at the centre of this great pursuit.
B) STEALTH
In the bush with a generator, old farm sheds and ware-houses would all make good cover for such an operation. Dirt or a dirty environment adds to this. Noise, smoke and fumes etc from such a site would not be so likely to raise an eye of suspicion and from a distance could well be seen as a typical industry or farming related operation.

It would be nice to think pills are usually made in sanitized white rooms containing no glassware (only plastic to avoid glass from a breakage getting into a tablet mix). The room would also have air filtering to less than 1 micron.
A place where all operators wear lab coats, gloves, hair nets and face masks. Each product batch is tumbled and each tablet passed through physical tests (shape) that pick up odd sizes, hairs etc.
A place where any major contaminant such as a hair would not only be spotted, but the source would also be thoroughly investigated.

This pharmaceutical type environment sounds wonderful, but alas, MDMA & other drugs that are easily made in less than optimum conditions, will likely stay in the "wood-shed" for a while yet. Sure, there's undoubtedly those who take more care, but I believe these to be very few and far between, more likely producing for small circles of friends. At present however, as I see it, the majority of producers/ importers-repressers in this country have little need for cleanliness, and even less cause for concern on issues of quality control and user wellbeing. The unspoken ethic being something like:
"If it works and makes money -and you get away with it - the rest don't matter" Mmm...tis much the same for many legit capitalist ventures....
The deterrent effect of "the mystery hair"
As a little side story; several years ago a close friend bought some hash which he knew to be from India. After smoking it for a week or so he found what appeared to be a hair in a piece. He knew the hash had been brought into Aus via a swallowed condom and just couldn't get it out of his head that the hair
may have come from the smuggler's arse. The repulsion-paranoia got so bad he gave the rest away
