People that discovered the rave scene later in life, how do you meet people?

Wow, I don't think mid 20s is old! I'm 20 and just got into this a little while ago. My boyfriend is 20 as well and he got into it a few years ago as with a couple of his friends. But almost everyone I meet is much older than me! I'm totally used to meeting people in their 30s and they are awesome too :). The people that my boyfriend and I met on NYE were in their mid 30s. I have met one person out of our crowd who has been younger than me. So mid 20s is sooo not old! But anyway, you meet a couple people and just go to these events. One club that I go to, it's okay to go alone. Just go and meet people. Why not? I have quite a few people who will text me when there is a fun event going on, just because we met at one of these events and had a great time.

Jeez you guys!
I used to be into scene in the late nineties, then kind of burned out. I'm dabbling with mdma again and would like to enjoy the occasional rave, but since I'm in my early 40's I think I'd feel like people thought I was a fool.

Oh well, at least I enjoyed it a lot in my 20s!

i am still quite young on the scene but have many many of my friends thru facebook events > going to them, introducing myself and adding them on facebook, only takes a couple of people and after a while everyone seems to know your name even if you dont know theirs

I'm 25 and when I went on NYE I felt like I was one of the oldest people there. Right now I only seem to go maybe once a year or so, although I'd like to go more often.

I try to drag people with me that have never tried it before and see if they like it. So far the majority of people have left immediately because they didn't like it, or just stayed with me because they knew I wanted to. It's hard because for a lot of people raves are just not their thing and it will never be. But if you have websites that promote the events in your area you may be able to connect through people there. Or just post something on craigslist saying you want to gather up a group to go party.

As you can see we've been at this since the lates`90s, going to NL since `94 and have plenty of friends there. One even went to high-school with me in the usa, man now I feel old :D

But here in the usa older people just don't fit in with the younger crowds, unlike NL events-clubs along with the fact many of the kids here are just obnoxious.

We really noticed this around 2004-5 and decided to spend our time overseas at big events, I do feel sorry for americans that can't experience the difference.

Also wanted to say we were in Belgium back in august- Brussels, Malmedy , Bouillon, ect.... we spend roughly 1 month in Belgium & NL every yr.

Not counting party events %)

Hehe, yeh it's really nothing weird on events to have 40'ers partying, not even on the hard dance events I attend to. Even though the majority of people on hard dance events are probably 18-21 there are also 40'ers attending them and when I see them I never notice people looking down on them, everyone just thinks it's amazing that someone still can enjoy a rave at a older age. Are you flying over for ASOT500 in April, it seems thats your kinda music and it's going to be the biggest trance event in the world as it looks now.

Oh and like you said, the molly (not uncommon to find 83% pure crystals) and x (pills from 160+mg...)) in the Netherlands is just amazing, even in Belgium it's all crap compared to our neighbours... And I only live 10mins from the border!

Im 25, Ive been going to concerts all my life but only in the last 2 years have I been getting more and more involved in the EMD scene. Theres no secret to meeting people, but what i can say is that the more that you contribute to the scene the more friends you'll make. At first I would just run around taking it all in at raves or festivals and lately ive taken up hobbies to share with people i meet such as poi, kandi, lightshows, whatever you fancy in order to participate and give back bc a lot has been given to me. talking to people helps too, so if you go with your gf and u guys arent striking up convos or meeting people, might be better to go solo.

Id say that outdoor events are much better for meeting people than clubs...theres more opportunity to get away from the music, people are generally more uninhibited, and they are often multi-day...or at least go into the next day, as opposed to ending at 2-3AM. Also, get to know one or two people, and then get to know the people they know, and then get to know the people they know. I got into the scene rather late myself (just after my 23d birthday) and that was how I did it.

Also, to whoever said that young and old crowds dont mix, thats not entirely true. While a person will stick out if they are far older or younger than most of the crowd, I've been to outdoor events that had people ranging in age from 8 (there with there parents, not alone) to 58...all at one party. The majority of people (at least around here) seem to be 16-35.

Other than Ultra, there are no real outdoor festivals around here, gotta fly out places and that costs a fortune. I can't even find underground or undergroundish raves to go to, it's all shows at the south beach clubs all the time here

Burning Man or a more local regional burn depending on where you are.

The crowd is a little older on average, but holy god you have never been a part of anything like that.

Go along with the idea of it, bring gifts for other people instead of money. If you want to get high, walk around with candy or cigarettes and someone will return the favor. You shouldn't have to spend money to be on the same level as everyone else. Show some good vibes and things will find you.

It becomes 3 days of society without an ego, bullshit, or negativity. A place utterly chaotic but at the same time you have never felt safer. People will tell you "Welcome Home" and it feels like it.

While its an all ages sort of thing and there are children, its a bit of an adults playground. Go and take a part in it however that is to you. Nothing will be on sale, no overpriced food or drink. Bring enough gear to take car of yourself and be able to share some of it with those around you and everyone will be happy. If you want to get fucked up and run around on stilts naked, as long as your not hurting anyone, who am i to tell you what to do with your own life?

But seriously, its a very very awesome experience.... Go to a burn and drop an ego shattering amount of LSD, become a 7 year old flying away to Neverland for the night. Leave your ego at the gate.

If you go with friends, prepare to lose them in it all. That is kind of part of it, push yourself outside of your comfort zone, everyone is friends and family in this kind of place and we all go insane together.

If your a drinker, expect free bars. Alcohol camps get kind of wild, not really my thing but yea its crazy.

Yep I've been to festies before (Wanee) and Ultrafestival, I know all about it! I have trouble finding the smaller scale stuff though

No we had plans for Trance Energy till id-t decided to change the name - along with the crappy line up, it would have been #5 for us.

But we did get our tickets already for Dance Valley, and if we get into the mood may flyover in the spring to hit a few clubs in NL.

Fukin ID-T......

Lol if you think Ultra and Wanee are anything close to a burn, you have no idea what i am trying to get at....

Ultra is a massive festival with dense crowds of people who pay lots of money on commercialized bullshit.

Burn's are not music festivals, it is a festival of sorts but its a festival that takes the direction those attending choose to take it. The music being preformed is by those who showed up, set up a stage, and decided to preform. There isn't any of the waiting in long lines to pay for overpriced food or water. Run around naked, ride a bike around, ride a bike around naked, see how many people you can get in a conga line, see what people to do for a Klondike Bar, paint something, make art, burn art, be art, be in an orgy if that floats your boat, climb something, explore the space between, lose your ego in the chaos and embrace it, watch a circus, ride a pirate ship through the forest or desert.... Hopefully your seeing what i am trying to get at.... There is lots of music, but this sort of thing is by no means a music festival.

Its a place where you can do whatever you want, dress however you like, and be as crazy as you want to be and no one is going to tell you to stop.

If you have the means to go, by all means do.... This sort of experience is great for the soul and infinitely productive. Everyone is way more open and accepting than what you will be used to, it will push you out of your comfort zone but at the same time you will feel completely safe with the understanding that these people are friends.

Part of me thinks i will enjoy the regional stuff more than when i finally make it out to Black Rock City for Burning Man.... Its a little more intimate, and while its large enough to completely lose yourself and everyone you know in it, there are familiar faces.

The first half of the video is a good representation of what i am trying to get at, the 2nd half is about the guys friend that had a psychotic break from eating too many drugs in the desert heat for days on end.

Honestly, The Matrixx is just a regular club, .

It maybe the norm for you guys but its a very nice, club don't kind yourself on how lucky you guys have it=D

The clubs here in Fla.USA suck and I've been going all over the state ;)

Flying from NY -> NL for a weekend isn't that bad really, last yr for TranceEnergy we knew loads of people that flew in for the show and flew out the next day.
Thats hardcore:D

Im considering flying across the country for a large festival in California during the spring.

Really wanted to make it to Portugal for Boom 2010.

Well you're definitely not old! But there tends to be an "older crowd" at EDM club events (mainly 20-somethings with 30+ sprinkled in). Or should you attend festivals, you can usually find the "older" crowd in VIP (once again, typically 21+)
