"Pa. House passes bill to ban bath salts, others "
http://www.whptv.com/content/Archiv...bath-salts-others/wwPilL0DK062BwgTD63GGQ.cspx
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Thomas Caltagirone, D-Berks, said the House has passed legislation (S.B.1006) that would ban synthetically-produced "designer" drugs in Pennsylvania, including bath salts and synthetic marijuana.
[...]
The bill would add to the list of Schedule I controlled substances the most recent designer drug, known as 2C-E; as well as Salvia Divinorum; Salvinorin A; Divinorin A; synthetic marijuana; and synthetic cocaine/heroin, more commonly referred to as concentrated bath salts.
Bill To Ban 'Bath Salts' Heads To Governor's Desk

My notes on this matter:

S.B. 1006, A bill in Pennsylvania originally designed to ban the major components of so-called 'bath salts' (various cathinone-derived substances), has expanded to include a swath of synthetic cannabinoids, of 2-C* drugs, and Salvia Divinorum (and its major constituent).

The bill is on the desk of the governor, so prompt action must be taken to guide the governor's hand. Allegedly the governor will read correspondence sent in on the matter of the bill. Because the bill passed the legislature around June 16 and there are usually 10 calendar days for a governor to make a decision, the time to ask for a VETO is NOW!

The bill text and info about its passage can be accessed at

The best way to contact this office with urgent correspondence regarding the bill is by fax. Go to a Kinkos or some office store, or if you are living in your parent's basement, you can send a fax online from various services, see http://www.google.com/q=free+fax for example. Consider calling the office an hour after you fax to make sure they are in receipt. There is probably a preference for correspondence that includes identity information (not for verification but for appearing legitimate. I don't doubt people make something up.)

There are various reasons from which to appeal to the governor, legal, moral, scientific, practical, etc.

One example of something to do, if you can't find someone important to expediently get a letter to this governor, is to retransmit old letters by important people. As you may or may not know, for example, Daniel Siebert is one of the prominent salvia divinorum researchers, and on a similar bill, he sent this letter to congress -- http://www.cognitiveliberty.org/drug_policy/Daniel_Siebert_salvia_letter.html -- which is every bit applicable to S.B. 1006 because of the wording of this state's drug acts. Consider writing a prefatory paragraph regarding the important person's status and how their letter is applicable here, and then just append the text.

A failure to act here invites domino theory among the states and corrupts society on the value of drugs (and property and liberty generally) -- when something is against the law, people are more often taught it is 'bad', and those interned notions usually prevail over critical thinking, a power that usually increases over time.

Well this fucking blows.... Uuuuugh. A special thanks to all the loser assholes that couldn't be bothered to use these product discreetly, responsibly and in moderation. You know who you are and you get a HUGE one-finger salute.

^Let's keep the blame where it belongs - on the politicians who are actually making these chemicals illegal.

No surprise that they got salvia, too. Too bad, though.

True, true. I just happen to read a lot of stories on the forum that do nothing but give these chemicals bad name. I hate that SWIM bullshit but I just wish their was a more serious effort to enact stringent harm reduction measures and discourage dangerous behavior on here. Instead I often see dick sizing about massive doses and dangerous things done on various substances and etc. which only seems to encourage others... :( I don't mean to judge anyone and their usage but I do believe these chemicals have benefits (consequences too) and can be used responsibly and want them to stay (clandestinely) available.

But overall you are right. Maybe I am blaming the wrong people. Who the fuck are these politicians to tell me which parts of my own brain I can and cannot access? Drives me absolutely fucking crazy

Dick-sizing in the focus forums is frowned upon just about as much as the use of SWIM. However, one would think that the majority of members here use at least some modicum of common sense when it comes to the dick-sizers. They're either lying out of their arses, trying to make themselves look badass, or they're prime candidates for the Darwin Award.

Anyone who is compelled to attempt out-do them based upon the dick-sizers' often spurious claims could do with being removed from the gene pool, imo.

Must have been all the Amish tearing around in their buggies on Bath Salts, Spice and 2-CE.

On a more serious note...

This will prove to be a Negative move, Prohibition does not work.
How about putting some harm reduction strategies in place, instead of forcing substances underground?

This does more harm than good. Regulate the industry for human consumption.

Lets have some standards and practices involved here and make an obviously popular activity safer for those who choose to partake, as is their Human Right.

also, how about banning the chemical without making it a crime to consume the chemical?

95% alcohol is banned in Florida, but if I'm caught with some I'm not going to be sent to jail, or even given a ticket. The bottle won't even be confiscated. Why can't they just do that with new drug laws?

How does the quote go? "Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the first one" - Albert Einstein I think.

It sucks when they make these things illegal, its going completely the wrong way, and will just drive such chemicals into the underground, where they will be cut with god-knows-what.

Chill dude, it's not like you can be discrete in today's world, even that online black market with every drug imaginable was found out after a couple years. And that was really strict in its security.

Oh look, another black-market opportunity just opened up.

A very lucrative market out there for any scientist/chemist that can come up with the next best "legal"high.

It would be magic if they ever came up with something that was almost exactly like an opiate/heroin, etc......

They already have some; it is just a topic most people do not want to talk about so i learned....But if you look around you can find some chemicals that will give you opiate type high...

7-PET is a potent analgesic drug, 300 times the potency of morphine by weight.[1] It is related to the more well-known oripavine derivative opioid etorphin.....

Bromadol is a potent narcotic analgesic with a distinctive chemical structure. Considered 10,000 times the strength of morphine, it was first reported by The Upjohn Company in 1979. BDPC is an arylcyclohexylamine derivative also bearing some chemical similarity to tramadol and venlafaxine.

Nice thread with some info on said topic... ;)

I'm going to take the Ron Paul approach on this one: I don't need a law telling me that Salvia sucks (i.e. his take on heroin being that people are smart enough not to need the government telling them what not to do).
