Prosecutors in the Carlisle Borough, Pennsylvania said Tuesday that a 21-year-old tax collector, elected last year, was arrested for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer.

George T. Hicks, a Democrat who simultaneously became the Carlisle’s first African American tax collector and the youngest tax collector in the U.S. when he was voted into office as a junior in college at just 20-years-old, insisted that he was set up by police.

Despite his plea, Hicks also told local media that he does use marijuana medicinally to relieve stress, and admitted that he did in fact “help” an employee with “something.”

Medical marijuana is not legal in Pennsylvania. Bills that would legalize its use have been submitted by Democrats during the last two sessions, but they have failed to gain traction with the large Republican majority.

Police said the sales were caught on surveillance video just outside Hicks’ office, located adjacent to the Cumberland County Courthouse in Carlisle. The office is responsible for collecting taxes not just for Carlisle, but for Cumberland County and the Carlisle Area School District too.

Another responsible user dragged down into the depths of the prison system for no good reason, my condolences Mr. Hicks.

how you gonna have a govt job and talk about using weed medicinally in a non-mmj state?

he probably did get set up but its his own fault for doing any kind of selling in the position he had

People always say im too paranoid and "its just weed"

fuck that, its not "just weed" in PA yet, it can still fuck you over if you get caught with it

reminds me of that Dell Vikings song

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumbbly doo dee dumb dumb dumb

He didn't include sales tax on his sales. Be funny if he got in trouble for that since he's the tax collector.

Dude, I run into the same trouble in my state. In my state, it is just as illegal as it is in in PA. If the cops catch you with weed, it might as well be any other drug because you can still go to jail for it, get fined out the ass, have to pay for a lawyer, etc.

but some people for some reason don't see it as an issue. When I can smoke again, I'll be damn careful about my weed usage, not because weed is dangerous but because saying "it's just weed" isn't going to get me out of trouble.

I lol'd.
But seriously, it is pretty ridiculous that the government is not collecting taxes on the sale of weed.
Instead, the underground is getting 100% of the profits.

And, I agree with what paolo666 said. Another career ruined over this relatively benign plant.
Sad.
