vibratone is my addiction. i need to get more serious about guitar. i'm lazy about memorizing chords so sometimes i just kinda play the root and watever other note in the chord i can find really quick to make a dyad. sometimes it sounds cool, but sometimes it sounds way too thin. i put way more effort into learning and working out melodies and lead parts / running scales, than i do with the underlying harmonics. if i ever got serious i think i could become a competent musician. wat i really need is some lessons, i've been noodling and fiddling around for years without any real direction.

heh that recording is from almost two years ago... almost painful to my ears to go back and listen to it =p i think its good to get it out there, still, though.

laika i would definitely be interested in hearing your playing. PM if you don't want to the whole world to see. :)

that's like saying you'll be a better writer if you got some lessons. sure, it can help, but at the end of the day you can really invent your own language and still have other people understand and appreciate it. :) if their ears are open and you're coming from the same place.

I'd take bargain bin vinyl over most CD's anytime....if only because the act of putting on a record, taking it out of the sleeve, etc is such a classic experiences that only the most clever CD packaging can provide....add to it that a lot of modern day masterings still leave a lot to be desired...LPs rock!

no doubt, i definitely see your point. otoh, i think there is something to be said for formal training. its easier to break the rules creatively if you know what they are to begin with. at any rate, lessons or not, i think i could definitely benefit from getting more serious about learning music theory and the underlying mechanics of music. i'm also trying to learn to read sheet music, but its pretty frustrating.

i'm just tired of being a noodler and want to be a real musician, lol. its a lot of work tho

And Vinyl cover art is so much more intimate than with CDs, except for something clever like you mention.

Both good points. For me the major issue is that as much as digital recordings are getting better and CD quality 41400 hz is now the 'basic' level I still find true analogue from drum or guitar string to vinyl groove to needle vibration to speaker vibration to be non-substitutable. There's a deeper warmth and authenticity that's on another level.

Absolutely

lol i even like the scratches and pops on an old record, it has character

the utter sterility of digital music is a total turnoff to me

^ Never heard of it but I'm listening now. I dig Bluegrass.. I'm sad I had to sell my banjo just to pay some fucking bills. Fucking real life..

I just found this picture today, sort of relevant to the convo lol;

Bingo. I've got an imperfect Sgt. Pepper and love it. Most of my records have slight imperfections, I've listened to some where it gets to the point of distraction and that's not really good, but the odd pop gives it character.

The Dark Side of the Moon album I have is pretty mint though and that's not bad either of course. My vinyl love affair gained major traction when mildly tripping one night and the opening heartbeat (which I had never before heard on vinyl) was like hearing sound for the first time.

I know people who smoke grams of weed and pop grams of MDMA every week, but the expensive habit? Wax. Vinyl junkies are jooked worst than anyone.

Yeah I had set up the simplistic beat on an Akai sampler and ran it through my mac book and then just played the synthesizer over it for the duration, no loops or anything. I have an endless stream of "that song" that can pour through my finger tips any time I'm at a keyboard or piano.

y'all like some good ol' bluegrass?

been listening to the pizza tapes lately, such a good album

Heh just had it on earlier, played along with Rosalee McFall.

We all are musical snobs now, or not I guess...apparently even a casual listener can hear a difference between 48k and 41k. I know I can.

Hee heee, don't get me started on that topic. I sure do love the Beatles, and have a soft spot for their stuff as originally released for US market.

yeah that really is pretty damn good, laika. chill as fuq and then there's like a suggestion of a robot laser storm and then chill as fuq again :D
