You guys, I'm still buzzing so hard on sheer exuberance from last night. It was the most exciting musical night of my life! I got over there and we jammed with a new drummer we were trying out... me on djembe, and bass, guitar and set. It was - by far - the coolest thing I've ever been a part of musically. The drummer was pretty quiet and not too complex so it was perfect to play djembe with, and I controlled the beat of the whole thing which is usually not the case when playing with a set drummer. It was the best I've ever played on it, this driving, complex, fast, tribal/jungle rhythm on top of everything. And the guitar and bass are so awesome too, the whole thing is gold. And it was a solid 40 minutes of continuous jamming on the same idea. I feel like if we had played it at a bar or club somewhere people would have been dancing their asses off. And it gets more and more psychedelic as it goes on too. We recorded it, and we danced our asses off and listened to it like 4 times all the way through in a row.
Then we took the drummer home (he doesn't have a car) and he happened to ask us if we wanted his old Casio keyboard (just met the guy, like, what?)... and we have really been wanting a keyboard so I can start jamming on the keys since piano is the instrument I have the most experience with and no one is playing keyboard yet. So we unexpectedly came back with a keyboard. I started jamming on that for fun, and it was so easy to pick back up. I've got some work to do but I was really impressed with how quickly I was doing cool stuff, took about 15 minutes of reacquainting myself. We also did a funny jam with the percussion sounds setting, where all 3 of us were on a different section of the keyboard and we recorded it, it was actually really good, just pretty funny because it was a percussion jam with corny Casio percussion sounds.
I didn't get to bed til 5am but it was so worth it, holy shit. I'm going to get the recording of the 40 minute jam once my friend finishes tweaking the levels and stuff and I'll put it on Youtube and post the link, I think you guys will dig it.
