☮ Social ☮ PD Social: swirling into homeostasis

I don't have a cat. I've got a dog though. She's at my parents house. She seriously might be my favorite living thing on the planet. It kind of makes me wonder about my personal relationships (or obvious lack there of).

Anyone got rap recommendations... that's more serious rap? not about bitches, hoes, or doing drugs? I'm female. hearing bitch or hoe in a song just doesn't make me all that dammed pleased. I've heard there's actually "good" rap, but yet to see any of it. I'd appreciate someone who takes a more spiritual/serious spin on the medium.

One of my favorite is The Coop (the group) - Pick a Bigger Weapon (the album). I think a few of the songs are on on Youtube, but it doesn't compare to listening to the whole album. It's political and a little spiritual... I love it.

You might like Tanya Morgan. Good wordplay and excellent production.

Other than that, though, I haven't listened to very much recent rap. I think it's been on a steady decline since the mid-90s, and in the past few years has mostly turned to pure crap.

With mainstream rap, I agree. But there's a shitload of amazing underground or less known rap these days. The 90s did have some great rap though. But my favorites these days are within the last few years.

Also, one of my favorite rap albums is Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP. It's pretty intense but also extremely full of intelligence and he's always saying something with his words. And he also rhymes words that shouldn't rhyme and somehow sounds like he's just talking conversationally, but it's with the beat. Highly recommended in general, especially that album.

Um, I feel retarded for asking this, but wtf is dust? There's a thread about it, and I've really got no idea what it is. Apparently the slang isn't used in these neck of the woods.

Yeah, most rap seems like crap to me, I never really listen to it. I've been laughing my ass off to the Marshall Mathers LP for a week or so, but it's more humorous than actually good... he makes a few interesting statements, slathered in all sorts of bullshit. *shrug*

Jon Hopkins. Ambient, IDM, downtempo dank stuff.

Its hard coming home to a house with out my cat Molly. First time I've been home in 11 months, and my cat passed away late spring. About right now I would always go down stairs and spend time just lying and petting her. I went downstairs and saw everywhere she used to love to sleep/hang out, and I just can't help but cry. I always found comfort in her. I'd feel like shit, but she'd hang out with me and accept every bit of love I had to offer. I miss you Molly so much.

Man that really sucks I'm very sorry too hear that man:(

I love my cats so fucking much I'm gonna be obliterated when one of them dies

<3

Flare dust, or angel dust, is PCP

edit: Cloudy I really like that song dude thanks

"From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears c...ame out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys."
-II Kings 2:23-24

Or, in other words...

You're probably thinking of PCP, aka "angel dust."

I guess I haven't really put a ton of effort into finding underground rap lately. I can only obsess over so many genres at once...

I don't know, I think it's genius. I think he's being gratuitous for the sake of being gratuitous... it was right in the height of the whole PC movement of the 90s and beginning of 2000s, where people pretended they weren't being just as terrible because they said something in the socially acceptable way. To me, that album (and him in general at that time) is like a slap in the face of the PC movement, and was one of many influences that helped to get us to a more "real" place in society. It was social commentary that influenced the society it was commenting on. :)

I'd agree with that. But honestly, it's kind of crude and violent, and I think some of it is just to get attention. It's half a slap in the face for the cause and half a slap in the face just because he fucking feels like being an ass, haha.

I think I actually appreciate how a rapper says something, more than what he actually says, most of the time that's what I'm listening for anyways.

some niggas got mad skilz yo

I just can't get into music that's about smoking tons of pot and degrading the women you're having sex with. Honestly, if the words don't mean anything, I couldn't give a shit less how they're said.

Mmm... none of that really worked for me. =\ Sorry ya'll. I'm debating whether or not to get the rest of eminem's shit... I'm trying to expand my music horizons... and am not being so successful, heh.

I guess I appreciate Eminem because it's not something that really gets my emotions moving. Kind of nice to not have that sometimes.

It's alright that they talk shit about "bitches" though, cause "bitches", or the girls they rap about, are just whores or w/e and very unlike yourself, they bring the discrimination upon themselves, so it's totally different..:D

If that makes sense lol.

Oh yah and Xork if you're still there I think it's time for a new thread lol ;)

This might be the biggest one yet I'm thinking :D

The only response to this post is:

LEAK LEAK LEAK ololo

I went to emerg tonight over my ongoing stomache issues, the doc was really nice and understanding. He somehow managed to see me as a person and not just a chart with "celiac, bi-polar" on it and therefore = psychosomatic issues. In terms of doctors that makes him a god in my books, even sent me home with a little vial of antacid, and some good advice.

In summary, respect the White Sage Godess, Salvia Apiana. Only use her as incense or for a smudging stick, to purify the area. Don't consume her orally or try and cop a buzz unless you want to experience the stomache of boiling lead gutrot from hell.

Damn man we have more in common than just football clubs, you a RHCP fan aswell then?

haha, great (or small ;)) minds think alike. And of course, although I find their albums to contain a lot of filler tracks, like 5/15 are really good and the rest are just... meh. You gonna watch the match tonight? www.atdhe.net is the streaming site I use if you need one.

ooooooooo bare with this long response:

First suggestion:

Cunninlynguists - A Piece of Strange

Only rap album I've ever been able to describe as 'beautiful'. It would be the only rap album to make my 'overall top x albums' if I were to have an overall top x.

Some tracks from it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7pGI7XQmNk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA8wzjtI_Oo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xi_amm31Wg

including, my favourite hip hop instrumental (excluding DJ Shadows work, s that is obv. greater :p):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWfZWBf08A0

--

Army of the Pharaohs - Ritual of Battle

12 man supergroup of underground philly rap. Perhaps overly 'serious' but good listening regardless.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cASLfP6mkC0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izp9XnkgoNQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOohwhIJIB0

--

Jedi Mind Tricks - Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell

Vinnie Paz's (the 'maker' of AOTP) primary 'group'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r0KpWMNxnM

^RA the Rugged Man does the second verse and absolutely murders it, he's a beast.

--

Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 2

Probably the 'biggest' underground artist. Tends to be very political but most of his stuff is very good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igt-jW4e8ts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u3JSEqNtlg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QTR1-IhVJE

-

And of course you have to listen to Dance with the Devil from revolutionary vol. 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qggxTtnKTMo I warn you, it's pretty dark.

Plenty more to suggest if you like any of them :)

and the literature suggestion will be written down at some point, i still haven't got round to even begin to think about it haha

Interestingly I love JF's solo stuff but my fave chilli's album is the one without him 'One Hot Minute' one of those albums I can listen too on repeat without getting bored and imo devoid of filler.

As for the Spurs game...well I am now, thanks for the link, well and truely bookmarked.

I normally use:

http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/

but it gets really busy and slows down, will give that link a shot tonight =D

Oh... and before I forget: C'MON YOU SPURS!
