Paxil withdrawal day 3 - will taking sertaline help?

i was told by my doc to stop using Paxil and take 100mg of sertaline straight away. Will this help the terrible WD I am currently getting?

Anti depressants take weeks to kick in which confuses me because online it's been said that taking Prozac or another AD could ease WD off of another anti depressant.

I don't see it helping as like you mentioned SSRIs take weeks to become effective. Not too familiar with Paxil but if it's an SSRI like the Zoloft you are being switched to then it's not really going to address your issues.

How long have you been off the Paxil to start withdrawing from it (discontinuation syndrome is the psych term for it) and what exactly are you experiencing?

I think it would help, actually, and quite a bit, though I don't know how much Paxil you were taking and for how long. My recommendation is split that 100 mg tablet in half, and take half in the morning and half at bedtime. This will help with any inter-dose withdrawal symptoms sertraline could cause, especially if you are younger and have a healthy body, for that equals quick metabolism, which is good, but you just need to work with your mind and body.

Incidentally, I'd be terribly surprised if the sertraline did not act on the action of serotonin with the very first dose. I have taken several SSRI's in my day, and I can tell you something starts changing right after you take the pill.

If you want to get of SSRI's for good, switch then from sertraline to fluoxetine (Prozac), because Prozac happens to have a very long half-life and good taper plans can manifest with Prozac. Out of curiosity, how much Paxil were you on and for how long?

Yes, it will help. Taking any SSRI will alleviate the (sometimes really nasty) withdrawal effects instantly. Just don't overshoot the dosage, start very low and wait an hour before dosing again.

I started taking it in February and was on the middle dose. Can't remember mg. Doctors always talk about how anti depressants take weeks to enter your system but yes, since I took the sertaline, the WD has calmed down. Today I am much better. No flu like symptoms. I am 27 by the way.

I feel like a mess sometimes because I am currently weaning off of poppy pods too. I am taking about 1/15th of what I used to take but the withdrawals do not seem to have decreased by the time the next dose arrives, or even 4 hours before sometimes. I am currently taking around 3 level tablespoons of powder. I used to ingest pints of the stuff, with water, at any one time just to rid of WD.

I know this is off topic but, will I feel a difference when I'm taking such a minuscule amount that I will be able to go from x amount, to t total, and the withdrawals will be bearable? Just to clarify I am now talking about poppy pods tapering, not Paxil.
