Passionflower questions

i have a small passionflower bush in my garden that had been pumping out beautiful flowers until about a week ago.

I wanted to try combining it with mushrooms. Only problem is its a common blue passionflower (passiflora caerulea) which is apparently mildly cyanogenic.

I heard that when boiled down most of the cyanides are destroyed, or at least I hope they are.

Could anyone shed some light on this. Also how many leaves do you recon I should take in combination with say a half gram or gram of dried liberty caps?

Thanks as always!

^If your trying to use it as an MAOi, its very ineffective (that said, I've only used passiflora incarnata). I don't think it has much of an effect on MAO, though it is mildly relaxing....

"cyanogenic glycosides" are sugar-esters of the CN- anion. when hydrolyzed (boiled under acidic conditions) this is released as free HCN, which is highly volatile at 100C. ideally a few minutes of boiling with lemon juice should remove most if not all cyanide. that said, i have no idea how much cyanide is present in the plant to begin with... but a hot tea should be perfectly harmless
