I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the legal party pills floating around Australia?

Up until recently, I had been taking MDMA on occasion when partying with friends or at festivals, though, I started taking a small (10mg) dose of Aropax, a SSRI. Through experience and a lot of research, it's clear that SSRI's block the receptors that MDMA reverses, inhibiting the 'high' and pretty much making ecstasy pills useless.

In an attempt to find some kind of alternative, I've run into "Party Pills", apparently they are sold legally in NZ and Australia. There's little to no information about these herbal alternatives on the internet, but from what I have found out is that they contain DMAA, a substance that is present in health supplements to increase energy and taken by athletes. Apparently this does not interfere with serotonin in the brain, so i'm guessing my SSRI's won't affect these pills. Though, if they aren't affecting serotonin, i'm confused on how they're meant to create any kind of 'high'.

Any info or similar experiences?

I have never tried DMAA myself but from all reports it's something to avoid. Many people report feeling nauseous on doses required to feel high, and I've never heard anyone say they've got a good high from it.

I'm not aware specifically of it's mechanism of action, but there's plenty of ways other than tinkering with serotonin to produce a high. A quick search suggests that its mechanism of action has only be speculated upon, though it has been proposed its stimulant effects on the CNS is due to raising levels of norepinephrine/noradrenaline. The quick look I've had seems to suggest that caffeine is a better stimulant, which is perhaps a good indication of it's value...

I've found a couple of old threads concerning DMAA, they're not specifically about experiences or combining with anti-d's but you may still find them useful , as there are posts in there concerning experiences.

Yeah, fuck DMAA, it's banned in NZ now, and really nothing of value is lost.

DMAA is thought to work on norepinephrine and produce similiar effects to a high dose of caffeine, however unlike caffeine, it is much stronger vasoconstricter. The fact that this drug has nothing to offer means that it's not worth any potential danger.

In terms of things you can find to produce a 'high'. It depends what type of high you want.

It's too broad and not really harm-reduction to give you list of what you should take.

But here is a list of what you shouldn't take

DXM - Strongly contraindicated with SSRIs

Kanna - Has Serotonergic activity in itself, which means it may cause Serotonin Syndrome

'Herbal Ecstasy' - Often just has 5-HTP and Caffeine. The former may cause Serotonin syndrome with SSRIs

Most things sold at herbal high stores in Australia/NZ are bollocks. If there was some drug that was safe and euphoric, then it would not be legal.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
