Hi everyone!

My friends and I are looking to throw a party on the 24th of June. In the past, we did it at my cottage but it is now being renovated and so we can't go this time around.

Someone mentioned that it would be a good idea to check at a rec center to rent some room, but the only problem with this is that June 24th is a holiday where I'm from and so odds are it'll either be closed or packed.

It's a private event. We'll be about 30. I thought about a warehouse or an abandonned home but the only problem is that we need electricity for the sound system and lasers and all.

NOTE: I am not looking for any venues. I'm just looking for ideas of where to throw this party...

Any and all advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated.
 
I don't know if this is ED material, maybe try it in the events section of your region and location of the world.

A rec center or hotel meeting room would be dope.
Have you considered a party in the middle of the woods?

I have thought about it. There's an open field surrounded by forest close to where I live and thought it would be fucken awesome, but I need electricity to run the sound system and lasers and all... and there's no electricity in the woods... and I would need a pretty powerful friggin' generator to run the whole thing, no?

And to chitown rollin': I asked permission first. I felt the Ecstasy Discussion section would be where I'd find people able to help me out the most.
 
All depends on how much you are looking to spend. Some basic ideas would include - hotels, fields, community centers, casinos, pretty much any place where people gather.

Maybe a place of worship?

For some reason I've always wanted to roll ina asian setting. I love the zen kinda decorations and such.
 
I'm sure you'd spend the same amount on renting a generator as you would renting out a room at a rec center or hotel.
 
Someone's backyard? A field? Someone else's cottage? Someone's house? Basement?
There are usually tons of halls around. Look for event halls, rec centres, etc. Hotels sometimes rent out their rooms as well.
 
im sure you have a somewhat technically minded nerd friend whom knows of amps and wattage and such complicated things, see if he can help you figure out how much power you need. or failing that try and add up all the watts (and amps too i guess sry im not from this country and its all a tad different) and take this info when you go rent a generator.

nothing like an outdoor party but check weather.com *)

you should be able to rent a a 3k generator for less than $100 a day and 5k for about $100 - $150 a day. it's very affordable.

my burning man camp used to have a sound system (4 mackie powered speakers and 2 subs) along with a whole bunch of xmas-tree and other lights and we had 5k of power.

Sorry, man! It's not in socal. It's across the continent actually :P.

You would've been invited, though. Mos' def. If you ever hit Canada up make sure to let me know, though haha.

As for watts and amps... I would not trust myself with that. I'll just ask them what I'd need to run a sound system, lasers and strobes loll. My nerd friend lives outside the province, so... :(
 
Perhaps considering renting a more powerful generator, or even more than one. As someone said before me, it'd probably end up costing about the same as (if not less than) renting out a room somewhere like a hotel or something.

And if the 24th is a holiday, you can bet all of the public spaces you'd want to do this are probably already rented out. Or the prices are going to be super jacked up if there are any available.

Just make sure this field you're considering is set away from houses/roads and everything so you won't have the police called for noise complaints...and also that it's legal (so not trespassing or anything) for you to have it there. And, yeah, checking the weather to make sure it'll be okay... (Perhaps consider rending/buying some tents or tarps to put above the expensive equipment, just in case.)

Wish I lived in Canada...I'd love to go to a rave, especially an outdoor one. ><
 
Rent speakers, hook up lazers, do it in your basement if its sizeable, then you have 30 people at the party some upstairs some downstairs getting their skank on

The first one I did was in my basement. It was spectacular even with the low budget we had (thank god for a top notch quality sound system and a severely divine playlist). This time the budget is bigger but we don't have the basement anymore. The whole cottage is being renovated, there's no room at all. My house will be occupied and even if it weren't, there's not enough room.

There's no way I can do it in my home or cottage. That's why I'm here looking for ideas. I'll check to rent a generator. If it's not too expensive and does the trick I'll probably look into finding an old warehouse or any abandonned shelter.
 
If it's abandonned, it's not trespassing (as far as I know, at least) and no, we wouldn't trespass unless it was far off in the woods and there was no one there for miles... and even then...

And no, we won't be more than 50, but thanks for the heads up :)
 
Have a psychedelic party in the woods. (With psychedelic trance of course) Tripping in nature can be one of the most strange and best things you will ever experience. :)
