LAS VEGAS — Smoke wafting from a Cadillac Escalade on the Las Vegas Strip set off Paris Hilton's latest legal troubles when a motorcycle officer who suspected the smell was marijuana stopped the vehicle and police say a bag of cocaine later fell out of the 29-year-old socialite's purse.

It's the second time this year Hilton has been arrested on drug possession allegations, although authorities in South Africa dropped marijuana charges earlier this summer. In 2007, Hilton pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving and was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

This time, the hotel heiress was with her boyfriend, Las Vegas nightclub mogul Cy Waits, who manages a club inside the Wynn Las Vegas and was driving the black SUV that the officer stopped nearby at 11:22 p.m. Friday.

The officer "followed the vapor trail and the odor of marijuana to the Escalade," police Sgt. John Sheahan said....

.... Hilton was arrested on suspicion of felony cocaine possession. If convicted of the low-grade felony, she would get probation, but any violation of that probation would be punishable by up to one to four years in Nevada state prison.

Would we all be getting high all the time if we had an unlimited supply of money and nothing to do?

Anyone else would be put in prison for a good chunk of time :|

What I wouldn't give to be a rich, dumb-as-fuck, air-hanger-for-a-clunge "celebrity".

while it sucks for ms paris, this is a case where something good could come out of it. get celebrities in jail. stop the music and halt the show because of a joint

see how the public likes the drug war then

it at least gets concepts related to the drug war into public discussion

not at all surprised. if i didn't ever have to work i'd just get fucked up all the time.

i just hope that for once the punishment is similar to what a mere mortal would have.

though def think that high profile people getting caught should at the very least make people realise that taking drugs doesn't automatically make you a waste of space/bad person (though to make this point someone other than her needs to get arrested methinks...)

Anyone care to place bets on how many days she'll be in prison before being released for some stupid reason?

Seems to be a trend for celebrities who end up going to prison. They only serve a fraction of the sentence given to them. :\

That happens to regular people all the time.

There's no question about whether or not celebrities get special treatment, they do. Lots of regular people only ever serve fractions of their sentences too.

No one is mentioning any of the negatives they go through though. I got arrested back in June. My name was plastered in thousands of different headlines saying "Carl Landrover Busted for Oxy!" Becoming a nation-wide punchline and being nationally known as a drug addict/user has to be mentally tough to deal with. It doesn't matter how much money yiou have that is still going to bother almost anyone.

the last time i got charged with possession i got out after 5 days with no charges, so you dont have to be rich to get off just real lucky

Yes.

As others have said, "winning the lottery would be like a death sentence for me".

Oh really? I thought I was using drugs for all the right reasons 8)

How old are you, 14?

If coming into large amounts of money would suddenly make you a total out of control drug user, i.e., changing who you are dramatically, or giving you a "death sentence", then yes, that's a problem.

Paris Hilton is a shitty, egotistical, uncaring, spoiled little bitch. It's not cool when retards like her give decent people (that happen to use drugs) a bad name. don't be one of those people.

But I digress, we are not going to see eye to eye on this one, so I will back out before it gets ugly.

...back to the regular scheduled program.

I think what he's trying to imply is that having a seemingly endless amount of funds can cause minor or moderate drug use to spiral out of control. Certainly plausible, imo.

That's true, but not many regular people get released after only a few days or weeks into their sentence - like Paris Hilton's previous stint in jail, or Lindsay Lohen's recent release due to "good behaviour and overcrowding".

Yes exactly Phrozen. I use heroin, definitely not the best of drugs to have unlimited access to due to being rediculously wealthy. It's not something to be proud of, but I would be lieing if I were to say that my income would not effect the amount of drugs I consume. And being that my DOC is heroin (used to be oxy but not with this new formula), it would likely not end good if all of the sudden I had millions of dollars and no responsibilities.

yeah. people adapt though. some may adapt by simply drastically increasing their dose until they hit a pharmacological ceiling rather than their usual financial ceiling. others wouldn't go that route

acquiring that many drugs after a period of scarcity.. would make any almost addict go binging though right?
