A parent worried about a methadone clinic next to a child-care center said he and others might remove their children, despite promises from officials to keep the kids safe.

“I guess I’m going to have to sit down with my wife, as a family, and decide what we’re going to do at this point,” Ed Reid said after a meeting Wednesday to discuss parent concerns.

Victory Clinical Service, a methadone clinic that treats people addicted to drugs, last month moved next to ABC Academy’s 3210 Lansing Ave. location.

“A couple of parents said they were going to remove their kids from the day care,” said Reid, a Blackman Township resident who has two children at the center.

Kathy Hoszkiw, owner of ABC Academy, said officials from Victory Clinical Service and Blackman Township will hold monthly meetings open to the 150 families served by the Lansing Avenue location.

The clinic will expand fencing between the two buildings and install more lights, she said.

About 25 parents attended Monday’s two-hour meeting, Reid said. Hoszkiw said the number was about 15. It was not open to the public.

“They want to ensure their children are safe,” Hoszkiw said of parents who attended the meeting. “And that’s what we’re here to do, and that’s what we’ve always done.”

She said ABC offered to transfer children to its other two Jackson County locations if parents are uncomfortable.

...

David Blankenship, an official from Victory Clinical Services, and local police have said the clinic had been at another location farther south on Lansing Avenue for about 13 years without incident.

Just what--exactly--do these parents fear these supposedly evil, demonic, crazed methadone patients will DO to their children? Burst into the clinic, rip them from the caregivers' arms, and race away to sell the child for drug money? Or perhaps they may linger near the fenced play yard and beckon the toddlers over for a hit of smack? Or perhaps the parents fear that the children will be subjected to viewing the crazed behavior of these surely maniacal patients, who surely must be homeless, jobless, toothless, clinically insane, covered with maggots and excrement, twitching and moaning in a drug induced stupor?

Who the fuck cares? I would let my kid be in a daycare next to a methadone clinic.

Seriously, WTF are these parents saying? That people on methadone aint fit to be around kids? You use that logic and people on methadone aint fit to be parents neither! :X

I seriously cant comprehend wat these people could possibly think would hurt their kids there.

The ONLY, ONLY thing that MIGHT POSSIBLY be even a SLIGHTLY realistic or fair fear, could be this, and its the only one i can think of:

Clinic patients who are still secretly using could have needles in their pockets and they might fall out onto the ground on the sidewalk in front of the daycare and the kids will all get teh HIV!!! Oh noes!!!

And that is obviously a stupid, unlikely situation that really wouldnt happen anyways since theres gonna be a FENCE seperating the 2 buildings.

^lacy i know you just had a kid, im just wondering, were you on methadone while pregnant?
came out ok right?

Even without the fence, it'd be nearly impossible to get HIV that way. Hep C maybe, but not HIV.

Yea,I know that. "Teh hiv!" is somethin that ignorant folks like this would fear, so thats why i posted that, not becuz I think it would happen that way. But the people in the article would.

I'm sure this same group of people probably thinks that

It's not often that an article makes me angry, but this one has succeeded in doing that. I am absolutely incensed.

First of all: this shit is not news. Its a non-issue. Methadone is recognized by the medical community as the gold standard for treatment of heroin dependence, it is a legitimate medical treatment. This is akin to expressing concern over a cancer-treatment clinic being next door to a day care, aka absolutely stupid.

Secondly: these whiny-ass parents are clearly unintelligent. I hope their children grow up to be dopeheads, then maybe they will gain a realistic idea of who opiate users are (ie, normal people).

No, then they will just sue the clinic because their kids grew up to be heroin addicts. 8)

Seriously though, i wouldn't be surprised. :\

Because everyone knows that drug users are child molesters

the kids are too young and dumb to know what the adult users are doing so it won't make an impression on them

fuckin media cunts
