Paradoxal reaction with benzos

Here is a question, last year my friend overdosed on adderall and went to the hospital at the hospital everything was ok with him but they wanted him to stay their overnight just to make sure he was alright.

That night he had trouble sleeping so the doctors gave him some kind of benzopedeine he forgot what kind but he thinks it was Lorazepam an hour later he had a bad reaction he was hallucinating seeing faces and believing the hospital was keeping him captive, he was very agitated and confused.

My friend wants to take valium (diazepam) but is worried if this kind of reaction could happen again. Can he take it or stay away from benzos?

Paradoxical reactions with benzodiazepines are, if I'm correct, more likely to happen at higher doses. They are quite rare. I'd say "very rare", but I wouldn't want to tempt fate. Your friend should be fine to take some diazepam.

On an aside, is your friend sure that that was a benzodiazepine? It's very uncommon for hospitals to give benzos as first-line treatment for insomnia nowadays, and zolpidem is far more likely to cause hallucinations.
