Paracetamol Solubility

I just read that the solubility of Paracetamol is 1g/70ml so does this mean that no matter how much Paracetamol I put into 70ml of water the most that will dissolve is ~1g?

I'm performing a CWE with a tablet that has a red color so once I filter it I won't be able to see whether it's clear since the water actually looks like a strawberry milkshake right now. I used 40 500mg/12.5mg Solpadeine Max pills and I've never performed a CWE on them before and don't want to accidentally drink more than 1g Paracetamol.

Either way, I recommend filtering it at least 3-4 times. You will probably still be able to tell if the water is cloudy. Either way, the daily "dangerous" dose of paracetamol is 4000 mg so you should be okay.

Edit: wait, you mean 500mg paracetamol/pill, don't you? yeah, filter 3-4 times to be sure.

Yeah, 500mg paracetamol per pill. Thanks, I was planning on filtering a few times yeah. I've done this before with 500/8 but got these because they're 500/12.5. When I did it with the normal brand pills the end solution was surprisingly clear. It just looked like water and there was a lot of sludge left in the filter. I guess I could judge from the amount of sludge again?

It's hard to explain just HOW pink this water is, it looks like it'll stay cloudy and the stuff that has filtered through looks no different. I might just buy the other brand from now on and use more of them because this is more work than usual. The powder has formed a thick goo that's blocked the filter now.

Yeah, the more sludge the better. You really should be okay though.

Actually, I just dipped my finger in and had a taste, it's VERY bitter so that's a good sign. I'm just curious as to what paracetamol tastes like? I've never actually noticed a taste on it when taking it in the past.

I think it's relatively tasteless.

Yeah, I thought so but there are a few guides on CWE that claim you'll be able to taste it. I guess that's just a myth like "vodka is tasteless and has no smell". Right, so what's that odor coming off my girlfriend's mother?

At what temperature? The solubility will vary according to the temperature of the water (hence why you do a cold water extraction, not a hot water extraction, which would dissolve more paracetamol). According to a 1999 paper published in the Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data, its solubility is 7.21 grams/litre at 0 celsius; 8.21 g/l at 5 c; 9.44 g/l at 10 c, 10.97 g/l at 15 C, 12.78 g/l at 20 C, and 14.9 g/l at 25 C.

Paracetamol has a very bitter taste.
